Marriage Notes for Henry Moses and Catharina ???:
1) From The Journals of Henry Melchior Muhlenberg, Volume II, p. 750:

At St. Peter's Lutheran, Chester Springs, PA, in the year 1776:

"October 20, Twentieth Sunday after Trinity. In the forenoon we drove two miles in lovely weather (for this season) to the church, where a large crowd gradually assembled. Before the sermon I baptized four children of the congregation, and after the service an English child."

"3. Johann Adam, little son of Johannes Moses and his wife Magdalena, born August 6, a.c., baptized October 20, a.c. Sponsors: the grandparents, Joh. Adam Moses and his wife Maria Catharina.

4. Johann Adam, little son of Heinrich Moses and his wife Catharina, born August 25, a.c., baptized October 20, a.c. Sponsors: the grandfather and his wife Catharina."

[This record, with the link to Johann Adam and Maria Catherina Moses, shows the wife of Johannes/John to be Magdalena and the wife of Heinrich/Henry to be Catharina.]

Child of Henry Moses and Catharina ??? is:
21 i.   Johann Adam4 Moses, born August 25, 1776 in Pikeland Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania; died Unknown.

      8. Peter3 Moses (Johann Adam2, Johann Peter1) was born August 26, 1751 in Chester County, Pennsylvania, and died March 13, 1830 in Virginia. He married (1) Margaretha Phaeris May 24, 1774 in St. Michael's and Zion Lutheran Church, Philadelphia, PA. She was born Unknown in ?, and died Unknown in ?. He married (2) Mary Bradley Bef. 1808 in ?. She was born Unknown in Virginia, and died July 18, 1832 in Buckingham County, Virginia.

Notes for Peter Moses:
1) From tax lists found in "Pennsylvania Archives", Series 3, showing lists of persons living in Chester County who were taxed the Pikeland Rate:

Volume 11:

1767 - Peter Moses taxed as a Freeman (p. 356)

Volume 12:

1779 - Petter Moses taxed as an Inmate (p. 174)
1780 - Peter Moses taxed as an Inmate (p. 273)

2) From other tax lists:

1767: A Freeman (single) in Pikeland township, Chester County,
taxed 15 s.

3) From Futhey & Cope's History of Chester County:

1771: One of the founders of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Chester Springs, PA
Contributed 10 shillings towards the purchase of the land (name listed as Peter Moszes)

4) From Oaths of Allegiance, Chester County, Pennsylvania, Taken Before the Justices of the Peace, 1777-1785.

1778/05/23: Peter Moses of Pikeland Township took the Oath of Allegiance.

5) Entries for Peter Moses in Virginia census:

1800: Buckingham County, District Two (from Virginia Genealogist, Vol. 13, p. 25) --

Moses, Henry & son 2 white male tithables, 4 horses
Moses, Peater & son 2 white male tithables, 4 horses
Moses, Peter Jur. 1 white male tithable, 0 horses

[Peter is misspelled as Peater. Peter Jur. is probably Peter's son Peter. Henry may refer to Peter's brother, but I had no prior information indicating that Henry also came to Buckingham County, VA from Chester County, PA]

Notes for Margaretha Phaeris:
1) There is conflicting information as to the identity of Peter's first wife. Some descendants give her name as Margaret Farris. Other descendants give her name as Elizabeth Andrae.

There is in fact a marriage record for a Johann Peter Moses and Elizabeth Andrae who were married on 5/14/1769 at the New Hanover Lutheran Church, but this Peter Moses appears to be the Peter Moses who ended up in Cumberland County, PA, later Perry County, PA, and is therefore not the same Peter.

Another marriage record was located for Peter Moses and Margaretha Phaeris who were married 5/24/1774 at St. Michael's and Zion Lutheran Church in Philadelphia, PA. This time frame is much more appropriate, as the first child was born in 1775. However, there are as of yet no other records for this family having any other association with St. Michael's and Zion Lutheran Church in Philadelphia. Given that Peter was one of the founding members of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Chester Springs, PA, in 1771, marriage in a different church does seem a little odd, but not entirely impossible since brother John was married in Falcker Swamp Reformed Church in New Hanover.

Notes for Mary Bradley:
1) The name Mary Bradley came from family members. There is at this time no independent confirmation of this name, as no marriage record has been found, and no will has been found. However, the 1800 Census for Buckingham County, District Two, does include several listings for Bradley, so this name seems feasible.

2) From census records:

1830: Census for Buckingham County, VA, includes an entry for "M. Moses" on page 300. This could be Mary, especially since Peter is said to have died in 1830.

Marriage Notes for Peter Moses and Mary Bradley:
1) Land Purchase:

1792, February 2: Peter Moses bought 60 acres in Buckingham County, VA, adjoining the land of Joseph Bradley (who could have been Mary's father or brother perhaps).
