Descendants of Adam Moses 09/02/2008

Generation No. 3

      18. Mary4 Schmid (Anna Catharina 'Caty'3 Moses, Johann Adam2, Johann Peter1) was born Unknown in Pikeland Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania, and died Aft. November 22, 1808. She married ??? Oldwine Unknown. He was born Unknown, and died Unknown.

Notes for Mary Schmid:
1) From the Abstract of Valentine Smith's Will:

Daughter Mary, who married an Oldwine, is mentioned in her father's Will, but no record of Mary's birth or baptism has yet been found.

2) Records of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Death Records (microfilm):

08/23/1834 - Mary, wife of John Olewine, Aged 55 years, 9 months, 5 days, which would give a birth date of approximately 12/18/1778. This is probably not the same person, as this birth date would conflict with the recorded birth date of sibling Valentine Schmid who was born in March of 1779.

3) Records of East Vincent Reformed Church, Birth/Baptism Records (microfilm):

Anna, daughter of John Ohlwein & Maria, was born 04/09/1803 and baptized 10/22/1803. This child might be the child of Valentine's daughter Mary, or could perhaps be the child of the Mary born about 12/18/1778.

Child of Mary Schmid and ??? Oldwine is:
  36 i.   Catherine5 Oldwine, born Aft. 1783; died Aft. November 22, 1808.

      19. Johann Adam 'Adam'4 Moses (John3, Johann Adam2, Johann Peter1) was born August 06, 1776 in Pikeland Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania, and died May 27, 1848 in West Pikeland Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania. He married Mary Magdalena ??? Unknown. She was born Abt. August 04, 1773, and died May 24, 1842.

Notes for Johann Adam 'Adam' Moses:
1) From The Journals of Henry Melchior Muhlenberg, Volume II, p. 750:

At St. Peter's Lutheran, Chester Springs, PA, in the year 1776:

"October 20, Twentieth Sunday after Trinity. In the forenoon we drove two miles in lovely weather (for this season) to the church, where a large crowd gradually assembled. Before the sermon I baptized four children of the congregation, and after the service an English child."

"3. Johann Adam, little son of Johannes Moses and his wife Magdalena, born August 6, a.c., baptized October 20, a.c. Sponsors: the grandparents, Joh. Adam Moses and his wife Maria Catharina.

[This record, with the link to Johannes and Magdalena, and also Johann Adam and Maria Catherina Moses, establishes Adam as a grandchild of Adam Moses.]

2) From the records of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Chester Springs, PA:

There is an individual named Adam Moses who died 5/27/1848 at the age of 71 yrs., 9 mos. and 27 days (giving a birthdate of roughly August 1st or September 30th, 1776). This individual could very well be this Johann Adam Moses, except that the birthdates are off by about 6 days.

3) From records provided by Tamara Compton, which came from St. Matthew's Reformed Cemetery, West Vincent Township, Chester County, PA:

      Adam Moses, died May 27, 1848, 71y 9m 21d

[This age is 6 days different from that shown above, so it agrees with a birthdate of August 6, 1776. What is not clear is whether Adam is buried at St. Matthew's or at St. Peter's.]

4) From "Selected Historical Papers and Records Concerning St. Peter's Reformed Church, West Pikeland, Chester County, Penna." (Compiled & Edited by Isaiah M. Rapp, Ph.D., 1940):

p. 123 -- 1830 -- "A Record of Funerals attended by the Rev. J. B. Knipe, Pastor of the Reformed Congregation of Pikeland in Chester County, Pennsylvania, during his Ministry."

p. 140 -- "285--Adam Moses, died May 27 and buried 29, 1848, aged 71 years, 9 mo. and 27 days."

[Obviously the same individual as shown in #2, but I do assume that the correct age is 71 years, 9 months and 21 days, as given in the St. Matthew's records.]

5) From Chester County Archives, Deed Book I-5, p. 366, Heirs of Adam Moses, West Vincent:
