Notes for WILLIAM "BILL" HARTLEY:
"Grandpa Bill went to the Confederate War in 1861. Poor grandpa was away from his family for four long years. I have wondered many times how Grandma and her little boys survived while he was gone...On Grandpa Bill's tomb it says William Hartley, Co. C. 37th Ala. Infantry, Confederate Sa. He died on Jan. 17, 1897. She died on Jan 25, 1902. They were buried at Bethel Cemetery."

"Great-great-great-Uncle George Lee was a preacher. He married my dad andmother almost 78 years ago. Aunt Beckie Howell was his second wife...I was five years old when we lived near them. It's odd how little things sticks with us. Cousin Hub was at our house one day and he wanted me to go home with him. He told me to get my clothes and say, "short coupled, but long gone." --Opal B. Wells "I never did get to see Uncle George, but he had got one of his hands and part of his arm shot off while he was in the service. Aunt Beckie showed us his knife and ford that he ate with. They were connected together. Uncle George was Grandpa Hartley's mother's brother
