THE TALBOT FAMILY OF LAHERN,NR TRALEE,CO.KERRY,IRELANDUpdated February 16, 2002
|I am currently researching the TALBOT family of County Kerry,Ireland. I have been able to go back to John TALBOT born about 1770 in Aglish,Aghadore, Nr. Killarney. He married Mary Anne Styles (born Vicinity, Tralee) around the 1800`s.
They farmed at Ballymacthomas on 64 acres of land 5 miles from Tralee on the Killarney Road. He is mentioned in the Tithe Applotment book of the 1820`s and the Griffith valuation book of the 1850`s.
Mary is reported to have seen the first train arrive in Tralee around 1859-1860
I would like to go further back that John. Perhaps there is a link to the Talbot family of Malahide Castle,Dublin ? I am willing to share the information if you are a distant cousin !
The Townland of Lahern, about three miles north of Tralee on the road to Listowel is where two of his son`s, Harry and James (1817-24/04/1910 -my Great-Great-Grandfather!) farmed 72 acres of land. A little bit of this land is still in possession of my family today.
His other son, Boyle, emigrated to Australia. Richard and William farmed in and around Tralee. There were other children Andrew, Charles, Jane and Anne.
Two Talbots served as Police officers James Talbot born 1868 served in the Royal Irish Constabulary between 1890 and 1915. William Talbot born 1898 served in the Gardai Siochana between 1923 and 1961.
It is fair to say that there are many descendants of the family now in USA,Canada and Australia. This is in addition to family in Ireland and Britain.
