"Jessie BALL met an Alan Breckenridge and at 18 went to Werris
Creek to give birth to Herbert Alfred BALL on 24 August 1882. On
12 Oct. Jessie was back in Scone to register the birth. Herbert
recorded the name Alan Breckenridge on his marriage certificate.
His daughter Hazel remembers her mother telling her, when
passing Breckenridge's store in Newcastle as a little girl, that
they were related to the Breckenridges. That was the only
reference Hazel ever heard of the Breckenridges and did not know
until June 1986 that her father was not the son of Thomas
Leonard ELLIOTT.
The lady researching the Breckenridge family is adamant that
there never was an Alan Breckenridge in or out of her family as
she has researched every Breckenridge to have appeared on a
record in NSW. She is of the opinion that a boy was using the
name Breckenridge to impress young ladies. The Breckenridge
