The Ed Ragsdale and Easter Ragsdale, Richland Parish, LA
"The man that sold him put him up on a stump and sold him when he was 2 years old for $200.His momma and his daddy sent his brother to see who he was sold to and after slavery they went and found him in Rayville. He bought some land for all his children and their children so nobody would be homeless like he was after slavery..."As told by Josephine Dawson, Grand daughter of Ed and Easter Ragsdale. The Ragsdale family of Rayville, Louisiana are descendents of Ed and Easter Ragsdale, freed slaves who lived and worked in Giriod, Louisiana prior to emancipation.A family reunion is planned for 2003 and all are welcome to attend.I am currently writing a historical book and welcome any information you would like to contribute. This site is dedicated to the memory of Ed and Easter who set the example for people of all colors to live in the present, but plan for the future. | The Ed Ragsdale and Easter Ragsdale, Richland Parish, LA Updated March 6, 2003 |
