Our Family Tree is a blend of many folks, close kin and extended cousins and kin. Some folks we know very well others we have never met and barely know their name. Most came to Texas to live, some just stayed awhile, others only knew someone that "went to Texas".
Surnames in one family group include Balkum, Bitner, Cothran, and Bilderback, Murphy, Proctor, Young, and Jones.
A second family group came to Williamson County, Texas they include Whittenberg, Whittenburg and descendants of Foster, Hasty, Long, Fleager.
A third and entirely separate family group include Tillery, and Raburn, Rayburn.
A fourth family group include Tate, Tidwell, Blevins,Isenshour, Pointer, Sparks. Also Burt,and Harvey.

    Our ancestors came from England, Germany, Spain, Ireland, Scotland. Some of our kin is native American Indian or they were part of the original settlers of TX, then called Mexico. Our family traveled from NC,TENN, AL, & MS to TX in covered wagons pulled by oxen or mules.
  • Walter Alfred Balkum and sister Fannie Balkum (23 KB)
    This picture was taken about 1897 or 1898 some where close to Leon county Texas. Walter Alfred Balkum was born Dec. 25, 1894. His big sister Fannie Mae Balkum was born Nov. 29, 1892.
  • Walter Alfred Balkum and wife Fannie Castle Balkum (35 KB)
    Walter Alfrd Balkum married Fannie Castle on Sept. 7, 1915.
  • Samuel A. Castles (17 KB)
    Samuel A. Castles is the Father of Fannie Castles Balkum. Samuel A. Castles served with the Confederate States Army as a boy and young man. He lived in Smith county Alabama and Leon county Texas. He married Aurelia Shoemaker.
