Hezekiah Davis (son of Vann Davis and Susannah Cary)1 was born 1760 in Abbott Creek, Moraian Twp., Orange, N.C.1, and died January 29, 1834 in Murphysboro, Jackson Co., ILLINOIS1. He married Sarah Anderson on 1782 in Washington Pendleton South Carlina, daughter of Philip Anderson.

Sometime during 1779, while residing in Newberry County, he was drafted under Captain James Haddleton, Co. Robert McRandy and Ge. Williamson and was sent to the frontier of Georgia. later, because he was a black smith and foundryman, Col. Brandon ordered him to stay at his work and perform services to all military men who needed his skills. However, in the fall of 1781, he volunteered and joined a mounted ranger company under Cap. Starke and went to the frontier of South Carolina to pursue the Indians. he later served in a unit which sought to drive the Tories from the Edisto Swamp.
