I am researching the Taylor family which has been in the counties of Down and Armagh in the province of Ulster, Ireland for at least 150 years.
I am specifically interested in information regarding John Taylor, who may have been born in the Newtownhamilton area, lived in or near Mullaghglass around the time of his marriage to Eliza Jane Hutton in 1888 at Killeavy Parish Church in County Armagh on the 1st September 1856 when they were both 21 years old, and later lived in Postley Place in the town of Newry.
They had a large number of children, one of whom - Agnes Taylor - is my great-great grandmother on my father's side.
Her son Henry was my grandfather.
The name Henry also appears on John's marriage certificate in the form of a witness, Henry Roper Taylor, and the minister was called Thomas Taylor although I can find no family connection to him. The same document lists John's father as Samuel Taylor, my great (4x) grandfather.
I have found information in Griffith's Valuation showing a Henry Taylor and a Samuel Taylor living next door to each other in two simple houses on the Millvale Road which runs between Mullaghglass and Newry, so I suspect these are the same two which appear on John's marriage certificate. Time and research will tell!
I am interested in how the family got to Ulster in the first place - the name is either Scottish or English in origin so they were probably settlers, or were brought by planters or undertakers from one of those two countries.
I am also looking for information on the Hutton, Mallaghan, Donald, Heslip, and Moore family names to make my tree more complete.
I am also happy to share the information I have collected with like-minded enthusiasts.
