Many migrated to Australia in the mid 1800's. My cousin, Anne-maree and I have been extensively researching our Forsyth family from Aberdeenshire. We are, at the moment, back to my 5x great grandparents, James Forsyth and Elizabeth Watson who married in Ellon, Aberdeenshire in 1780. Many of the male Forsyth descendants of James and Elizabeth were Meal Millers in Aberdeenshire. James and Elizabeth were at the Mill of Auchterellon in the 1780's where they had 3 children that we know of who were baptised at the Bairnie-Tillydesk Episcopalian Church. They were Helen b 1781 who married James Nicol. James b about 1783. We have no further information on James. The other was Alexander b about 1787, my 4 x great grandfather. Alexander was at the Mill of Broomfield in 1841 with his wife Jane and 5 of their 10 children. His son, James and James' wife Christina Robertson, were at that mill until after 1871. By 1851, Alexander and Jane had moved to the Mill of Aberdour where by 1861 they were retired and living at 59 High Street. Their son, Robert, my 3x great grandfather was then the miller at Mill of Aberdour until sometime between 1881 and 1886 when he died at Sandhaven Pitsligo. Robert and his wife Helen Thomson had 9 children including my great great grandfather, also Robert Forsyth, who married Jannet (Jessie) Farquhar in 1873 at the Manse of Aberdour. Robert and Jessie migrated to New Zealand in 1874 on the ship Crusader. Most of their descendants are still in New Zealand. My grandfather, James Forsyth, (their grandson) born James Richard Musson in 1906, came to Australia in the early 1930's. I would like to acknowledge all the research done by other family members. A huge thanks to Anne-maree Osborne for solving the mystery of my Grandfather, much fun was had in our research of the Forsyth's back to the mid 1700's in Aberdeenshire.also thanks to each and every one of the family researchers I have shared information with.
