Notes for HENRY TERRY HINSON: Uncle Terry was in law enforcement in Bentonia, MS. He told family of an ordeal he had on the job. He was in his patrol car when a black man approached him at his car window to ask him a question. The man assaulted him and was able to grab his gun. After the struggle, the man told him to drive. They went down a dirt road outside of town. The man ordered him to get out of the car and stand next to a tree. The man pointed the gun at this head and pulled the trigger. Click! He pulled the trigger once more. Click! He pulled a third time. Click! Unbeknownst to them, a local school bus driver had seen the kidnapping take place from a distance and had followed them down the road. As the bus approached, the man was startled and dropped the gun and escaped on foot. Terry, relieved to be alive and puzzled that his gun hadn't fired, picked up the gun and pointed the gun in the air and pulled the trigger. Bang! A year later, Terry was sitting at his desk at the sheriff's office when an angry black woman walked through the door. She asked him if he wanted to catch the man that had attempted his murder. She explained that he owed her $5.00 and hadn't paid her and she knew his whereabouts and would tell Terry if he wanted to arrest him. She gave Terry a Chicago, IL, address. Terry traveled by train to Chicago, successfully arrested the man and returned by train, chained arm and arm with the criminal. Terry is buried in Cedar Lawn Cemetery, Jackson, MS. |
