Notes for Lucinda Barker: The following is from Jo Ann Tate Null, Lytle, TX:
Lucinda was married three or four times. One husband was killed by Indians, one in the Civil War and her (3rd or) fourth husband was Jacob Clinton Meek. Her marriage license to Jacob lists her as Lucinda Perrymoore (looks like Lucinda Perry Moore).
Lucinda married Holden W. Griffin, January 23, 1848, in Red River County. They had one known child, William, born about 1852. Her second marriage was to J. W. Perrymoore, born about 1838, in TN. On the 1860 Census they have one child, Lucy, four years of age.
Lucinda's 3rd or 4th husband, Jacob (J.C.) Meek, was first married to Mary Crockett and they had four children (names unknown). Lucinda and Jacob were married in Cooke Co. in 1866. By the time of the 1870 census, they were living in Benton City, TX, and when the town of Lytle, TX, was established, they moved there. They were one of the earliest families in Lytle.
Jacob C. Meek was born 9/23/1823 in TN, was in Arkansas in 1840, and in Texas in 1850. His father's name was Jacob and his mother was Elizabeth Blevins. She was part Cherokee Indian.
Lucinda was born in Red River County, TX, 11/7/1833. Lucinda's father was James Barker who died in 1833. Her mother was Susannah Burkham. Susannah married Hudson Posey Benningfield (also known as H. P. or "Posey" Benningfield) after Barker's death. Susannah and Hudson also moved from Red River County to Benton City, TX and were on the 1870 Census.
Susannah, her brother, her sister, her father, Charles Burkham and mother, Nancy Abbett crossed the Red River into Texas in 1820. They were among the first Anglo settlers in Texas. In 1836 Charles participated in the Texas Revolution. He and two sons arrived at San Jacinta the day after the great battle. They all received first class land certificates for their early arrival in Texas.
Lucinda and Jacob Meek are buried in Lytle Cemetery. Susannah is buried in the Benton City Cemetery.
