"At the Courthouse of Philadelphia, September 1st, 1736, One hundred fifty one Foreigners from the Palatinate & other Places, who, with their Families, making an all three hundred eighty Persons, were imported here in the Sjip Harle, of London, Ralph Harle, Master, from Rotterdam, but last from Cowes, as by Clearance thence, were this day qualified as usual."From the Minutes of the Provisional Council, Printer in "Colonial Records" Vol. IV, p. 58f.
The "Harle" was said to be a "Snow".A Snow is similar to a brig - two masted with square sails on each.It is distinguished from a brig by having an extra small mast fitted abaft the main lower mast.This was known as the "trysail" mast and was set with a spanker sail (fore and aft triangular sail).The Snow rig was at one time common around the coasts of the UK.
