Descendants of William Bryce

Generation No. 1

1. WILLIAM2 BRYCE (DAVID1) was born December 12, 1773 in Irvine, Ayr County, Scotland, and died 1840-1850 in Carroll county, Georgia. He married MARY ELLEN ORR April 13, 1793 in Ayr, Ayr County, Scotland, daughter of JAMES ORR and AGNES FULTON.

Notes for W
ILLIAM BRYCE:
Form information now coming from a 4th grate granddaughter, Mary Bryce Wilding, living in Jacksonville, Fl.; " William and Mary Orr Bryce came to America in 1799. Bring with them their two or three daughters, leaving their son Thomas Jimison behind. Thomas did come to America at a later date." \\
It is my present , that Thomas may have come over with his grandfather, James Orr.\
There is a particular point of importance. That is, that in researching the Bryce in South Carolina. There were two Bryce families in that State in the early 19th century. They were not of the same family, and there are some who have information that joins them together. This William Bryce was from the Glasgow area of Scotland. Where as, the other Bryce were from Edinburgh, and they were merchants. Our William, on the other hand was into farming.
There was a petition for citizenship enter in Union county, South Carolina for William Bryce in October of 1808. The law was that one had to be in the country for five years before they could file a petition for naturalization. Therefore, William had to have arrived, between 1800 and 1803. This is expected since he was not found in the 1800 census. His not being counted may also had been, that he was not naturalized, before the time of that census.
Found in the history of the Decatur Presbyterian Church 1825 - 1925 , this is found; " This church was constituted under the name of " Westminster Presbyterian Church," on October 29th, 1825, by the Reverend John S. Wilson, D.C., under the commission from the Presbytery of Hopewell, within whose bounds Dekalb County, was included. The church was constituted with eight members, viz: William Bryce and his wife, Mary; James Lemon and his wife, Mary D.; Willliam Carson and his wife, Jane; Thomas Harris and Rebecca Luckie."\\
"When Carroll county, Georgia was organized, on December 22, 1829, an Act was approved, making New Carrollton the permanent site for public buildings, and incorporated the town with the following commissioners: Henry Curtis, Hiram Sharp, WILLIAM BRYCE, George Gibson and Giles Boggess." [ History of Carroll County, Georgia ]
By all indications this is where William and Mary spent their finial years, they were last counted in census records of 1840 in the house of their son Joseph. All though they are not specifically named, and Joseph is list as head of the house, the age and gender of the occupants would indicate the presence of William and Mary.
