Updated August 30, 2002JoyTensmeyer | Our families are rich in history with many origins, from Ireland, Sweden, Finland & Germany (Prussia) Researching the following Surnames: l. Scott:residing in Perry County, near Marion and Scott's station Alabama abt. 1825 to the early 1900's. Prior to this a James Scott emigrated to the U.S. from either Scotland or Ireland. Early ancestors were: James Crawford Scott, who married Mary Louisa Hogue, and Walter Bruce Scott, who married Margaret Rebecca Barron of York County South Carolina.Have his a BIG brick wall with this family and if anyone can help, it would be so terrific! 2. Barron, Adams, & Pressley/Pressly of York County, South Carolina. 3. Sjöstrand (Strand): Origin of Flisby Parish, Odestuga, Smaland Sweden. Most of the family emigrated to the U.S. in the early 1900's. Earliest ancestor recorded is Anders Gustaf Sjostrand, and his son Gustaf Fredrik, both tailors by trade in Flisby Parish.Also lived in Forserum Parish around 1891. 4. Johansson (Johnson): Origin Sweden. Earliest ancestor is Sven Johansson who married Charlotta Bröd Andersdötter.Sven died in Sweden, Charlotta immigrated to the U.S. and Lived in Kingsburg, California. 5. Mäntylä: Origin in the area of Tarvasjoki, Finland. One brother by the name of Kustaa (Gust) emigrating to the U.S. in 1913, other family members still residing in Finland, in Tarvasjoki, and Helsinki with surnames Penttilä & Fallenius. 6. Luhtanen: Origin in the area of Kauhajoki, Finland. One Sister by the name of Maija Liisa emigrating to the U.S. in 1915. Other Family members still residing in Finland, areas of Kainasto, Seinajoki, Keuruu, Kruunupyy, & Norinkyla, with sirname Lehtikevari. 6. Tensmeyer: Origin of family in Prussia, with emigrants moving to the Midwest...Iowa, South Dakota, and Indiana 7. Vittitoe:Origin of family in La Rue County, Kentucky 1826. Earliest Ancestor named Samuel Vittitoe enlisted in the mexican war, in the year1844.In 1865 he and his family moved to Harrison County, Iowa, where most of the Vittitoe descendants are today.
