| While there are several names that I am researching, the following are the most important: / CIESZYNSKI / NOWICKI / KOWALCZYK / IGNAZCZK /LANGA / GOLOMBEK / SLOTA / TORCHALLA / PUCHALA / WILK.......... CIESZYNSKI: This family came to the United States in the early 1800s and settled in the Detroit, Michigan area. They lived in the area of Russell and Forest in Detroit where Frank CIESZYNSKI ran a grocery store. / NOWICKI: The NOWICKI family also came to the Detroit area in the early 1800s. There were at least 2 brothers, Martin and Joseph (Josef) and possibly a 3rd, Steve. Josephine NOWICKI, daughter of Joseph (Josef) married Frank CIESZYNSKI in 1902. / KOWALCZYK: It is unknown when this family came to the United States. Their oldest child a daughter, Petronella was born in Poland and eventually married Francis IGNACZAK. Frank, Stanley and Joseph were born in Detroit. It is uncertain where another brother, Michael was born. They lived in the area of Detroit around St. Alburtus Catholic Church, (St. Aulbin and Canfield) / LANGA: Frank LANGA settled in the Bay City, Michigan area. His wife was Katherine GOLOMBEK. Their children, Martha, Anastasia (Katherine, Nettie, Louise) Angeline, John, Ambrose and Boleslaus (Named Frank at birth but called Boleslaus - his name was legally changed in 1940 to William S. were all born in Bay City. The family moved to the Detroit area before 1910. Anastasia married Frank KOWALCZYK. / SLOTA: The SLOTA family settled in Bridgeport (Pease Township, Belmont County) Ohio about 1902. Their 2 oldest children Jacob and Frances were born in Poland, John and Julia the 2 younger children were born in Ohio. Julia married John TORCHALLA (TERHALL) in Detroit. The entire family eventually moved to the Detroit Area. / TORCHALLA / TERHALL: John TORCHALLA settled in the Bridgeport (Pease Township, Belmont County) Ohio area in the late 1890s. It was here that he married Anna PUCHALA. Their children, John, Mary, Ann, Frank and Joe were all born in Ohio.John eventually moved to Detroit, Michigan and Frank moved to Columbus, Ohio. The name was legally changed to TERHALL in about 1950. / PUCHALA: Anna PUCHALA came to the United States in about 1897/8 where she married John TORCHALLA. She had a sister Maryanne who settled in Chicago and married a WILK.There were probably three brothers, Andrew, Stanley and Jan.Anna left home in December, 1927 and was never heard from again. The family thinks that she may have gone to Chicago to be with her sister. There was never any contact with the sister's family after Anna's dissaperance. |
