Descendants of William/Nathaniel Taylor

Generation No. 6

      101. James6 Taylor (Adam5, Jacob4, George3 TaylorSr., Isaac Taylor2 Sr., William/Nathaniel1 Taylor) was born Abt. 1831 in Giles County, Virginia, USA (Source: Genevieve E. (Taylor) Kline.), and died December 20, 1867 in Lee County, Virginia, USA (Source: Genevieve E. (Taylor) Kline.). He married Evaline Givens (Source: Genevieve E. (Taylor) Kline, source for Evaline as spouse of this PARTICULAR James Taylor.) February 26, 1852 in Craig County, Virginia, USA (Source: (1) Genevieve E. (Taylor) Kline, for fact that this PARTICULAR James Taylor married thus., (2) Craig County Marriage Records.). She was born Abt. 1833 in Giles County, Virginia, USA, and died December 23, 1892 in (near) Midway,, Kentucky, USA (Source: Genevieve E. (Taylor) Kline.).

Notes for James Taylor:
Not found on the 1860 Craig or Giles County Censuses.

Child of James Taylor and Evaline Givens is:
+ 178 i.   John Floyd7 Taylor, born September 03, 1855 in Craig County, Virginia, USA; died June 23, 1934 in Nebraska, USA.

      106. Elizabeth Mary6 Taylor (Alexander5, Jacob4, George3 TaylorSr., Isaac Taylor2 Sr., William/Nathaniel1 Taylor) (Source: (1) taylor2.FTW, Date of Import: Aug 3, 1999., (2) Federal Census., (3) Craig County Marriage Records., (4) Craig County Death Record.) was born Abt. 1824 (Source: taylor2.FTW, Date of Import: Aug 3, 1999.), and died May 01, 1880 in John's Creek, Craig County, Virginia, USA (Source: Craig County Death Record, Madison Hutchison reporting, yield this date.). She married Private Madison Hutchison (Source: (1) Eleanor Jane (Echols) Johnston., (2) Federal Census., (3) Hard Times 1861 - 1865., (4) Compiled Service Records.) April 24, 1844 in Giles County, Virginia, USA (Source: Per Giles County marriage bond.). He was born October 06, 1815 in John's Creek, Giles County, Virginia, USA (Source: Pocket notebook of Martin Van Buren Hutchison in the possession of the Virginia Historical Society, Richmond, Virginia; Bible of Geo. Wash. Hutchison in same custody.), and died Abt. 1887 in John's Creek, Craig County, Virginia, USA (Source: (1) Descendants of Samuel Jackson Hutchison told me that Madison died later the very same day that Jack left Craig County for Roane County, which they estimated at 1884-1885., (2) Craig County Lands Record Books which first lisited Madison's land as being paid by his estate, as opposed to him personally, in 1888.).

Notes for Elizabeth Mary Taylor:
Elizabeth Mary "Betsy Polly" (Taylor) Hutchison died of consumption
(tuberculosis). Her husband Madison Hutchison reported the death to Craig County. She apparently went by Polly since her name is either
given in it's proper form (Elizabeth Mary) by her children on their marriage licenses or as Polly.
The burial places of Madison and his wives are unknown to this researcher. Madison was most likely buried next to his second wife Polly. She preceded him in death and her ancestral cemetery (the cemetery of her Taylors) was William's Cemetery on Sinking Creek across from Level Green Church. Madison's father and many of his brothers (as well as his grandfather, most probably) were buried in the Hutchison/Hardwick Cemetery on John's Creek east of the former home of Madison and his father, across from the land owned by his grandfather Hutchison. I have no idea where Caroline (Huffman) Hutchison was buried. ROE
Source of info on Elizabeth's descendants is Robert O. Eason, he descends from her and I descend from her brother George Allen Taylor. (WLT)

More About Elizabeth Mary Taylor:
Fact 1: May 01, 1880, Consumption or Tuberculosis

Notes for Private Madison Hutchison:
Date of birth per Bible record of Madison's half-brother George Washington
Hutchison in the possession of the Virginia Historical Society according to Jane Johnston, as well as the pocket notebook of Madison's younger brother Martin Van Buren Hutchison found in the possession of the Virginia Historical Society by William "Bill" Hutchison.
William Thomas Hutchison reported that his father William Clyde Hutchison (still living & confirmed this report) reported that Samuel Jackson Hutchison left Craig County for Roane County the very day that Madison later died, unknown to Jack. They believed that Jack departed 1884-1885. In the "Land Book" of Craig County (which lists land by owner, general location, value & tax, for tax purposes) Madison's death is first referenced in 1888. That year the owner of the land is listed as Madison Hutchison, Est. (for his estate) as opposed to simply Madison Hutchison as previously. This is far from a reliable death record, however, as some known to have been dead for over a decade were still referred to by name as opposed to by estate.
Robert O. Eason has copied a PHOTOGRAPH of Madison Hutchison (copies available) which was owned by Nancy Jane (Noel) Smith as of late 1996.
The foundation and chimney stones of Madison's log house are to be found on the east side of Corner Branch about 1/5 mile north of where Corner Branch flows into John's Creek.
Madison served as a private in Co. B, 11th Battalion Virginia Reserves. He was enlisted 16 April, 1864 at New Castle for the period of the War by a Lieutenant Oakham. On 26 July, 1864 he was exempted by the medical board although he continued to serve until 31 August, 1864. The unit was originally known as Capt. Fry's Company, Wallace's Batt'n Virginia Reserves. The 11th was also known as the 4th. It was organized 13 August, 1864 with six companies, A to F. The only known company muster roll is dated 31 August, 1864. It lists "M. Hutheson". As there was no other man in the area other than our Madison for that private to have been, by process of elimination we believe him to have been Madison.
The burial places of Madison and his wives are unknown to this researcher. Madison was most likely buried next to his second wife Polly. She preceded him in death and her ancestral (Taylor) cemetery was William's Cemetery on Sinking Creek across from Level Green Church. Madison's father and many of his brothers (as well as his grandfather, most probably) were buried in the Hutchison/Hardwick Cemetery on John's Creek east of the former home of Madison and his father, across from the land owned by his grandfather Robert Hutchison. I have no idea where Caroline (Huffman) Hutchison was buried.

  Notes for Susan Virginia Hutchison:
The date on the barely legible (temporary, funeral home type) grave marker gave the specific date of Aunt Jenny Bell's death. The year was supplied by descendants of her brother Samuel Jackson "Jack" Hutchison with whom she was living at the time of her death, who remembered her. Nancy Jane (Noel) Smith knew that she died about the same time, therefore the same year as, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt - 1945.

Allen Taylor served in Co. K, 46th Virginia Volunteer Infantry. He was captured at Roanoke Island 8 Feb., 1862. He was present at the surrender at Appomattox 9 April, 1865.
On 10 October, 1998 during the annual Fall Festival of the Craig County Historical Society, Mindy and I had the pleasure of taking Geo. Allen Taylor's great-granddaughter Barbara Wood and her disinterested niece Holly ("Moll") on a tour of Sinking and John's Creeks where we showed them William's Cemetery, "the Al House", "the Joe [Taylor] House", many other more general sights and attempted to show them where Alexander Taylor and his family (our common ancestor) had lived. Barbara promised to send us what she had on her line as it descends from Al Taylor and invited us to correspond with her.ROE
