| Greetings! I have been doing research on my family history and have been able to trace the family back, with documentation, to the 1600's in Germany. The name "Theut" is actually much older and may have it's origins in Egyptian and Greek mythology. Theut being the Germanic name for Hermes the Greek messenger to the gods. All very old references to the name "Theut" seem to be associated with writing, or messengers, or similar related topics. In more modern times, I am able to document that my ancestors lived in the Rhineland area of Germany between Frankfort and Bonn in the Village of Lederbach. They left Germany for the United States in 1846 but did not enter the United States at New York but rather in Montreal, Canada. From there they traveled to Detroit and settled in Michigan, north of Detroit. I am always interested in making contact with other emerging "historians". I am very interested in making contact with individuals who might be able to supply me with passenger lists and ship names for the year 1846. This may be a German individual who speaks English or an American who knows how these records of passengers arriving at both the United States and Canada during this period, might be found. I have family trees tracing ancestory that I am more than willing to share. Looking forward to hearing from you. Incidentally, the name "Theut" can also be found spelled "Teut". Gary Theut, Great, Great, Great, Great, Great Grandson of Jon and Christina Fronert Teutus of Lederbach / Kempenich Deutschland. |
