3. WILLIAM3 CLOUD II (ROBERT2, ROBERT CLOUD1 SR.)99,100 was born July 8, 1621 in Southbroom, Devizes, Wiltshire, England101,102, and died July 20, 1702 in Concord Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania103,104. He married SUSAN JAMES105,106 June 7, 1647 in Calne, Wiltshire, England.

William Cloud, born probably as early as 1625, was a resident of Calne, Wiltshire, England and is first mentioned in the records of that place in 1660. In 1681 he purchased 500 acres of land in America from William Penn and came over to America in 1682, with his wife name unknown, and went to New Castle County, Delaware. The land he had bought from William Penn in 1681 and from which he obtained a grant from Penn, was laid out in error in New Castle County, Delaware. He seems to have resided in Concord Township, Chester County, (now Delaware County) Pennsylvania. The original grant to him by William Penn was confirmed unto his heirs in July 1715. (See Abridged Compendium of American Genealogy Volume I, Page 556).

William Cloud died in 1702. When he came to America he had five sons and one daughter who had married in England and remained there. The six children of William Cloud the first settler were:
1-William who died in 1719; married Grace Willis, left six children.
2-Jeremiah, married Elizabeth Bailey, left eight children.
3-Susanna, married in England and resides there.
4-Joseph, died in 1739; married Nancy Moore and left three children; married second Mary Green.
5-Joh, died 1744; married Ann Beeson left four children.
6-Robert, returned to England and left three children.

The descendants of William Cloud the first settler, from his five sons in early times settled in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and etc. William Cloud made his will in the 20th day of the 7th moth 1700 which method of dating is usually a Quaker designation, and same was probated at Chester, August 25, 1702 as follows:
I William Cloud of Concord Sem. in County of Chester being aged and well stricken in years, do give unto my son William Cloud 100 acres of my purchased land; to my son Jeremiah Cloud 200 acres of my purchased land; to my sons Joseph, John, and Robert Cloud, one English shilling if demanded; to my granddaughter Hannah Cloud, daughter of Jeremiah Cloud, all the rest of my estate, both real and personal, she to be Executrix, son Jeremiah to be overseer. Witnesses: Robert Pyle, Ann Pyle, Sadie Pyle. (Register of Wills, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.)

William Cloud the Immigrant, was the son of Robert Cloud and Joan/Jane Norys, born 8 July 1621, St. James Parish, Wiltshire, England. He married Susan James, 7 June 1647, Calne Parish. She was the daughter of Richard James Jr. and baptized 28 March 1623. Richard Jr. was the son of Richared James of Cote, baptized 23 December 1592. This data is listed in the Register of the Bishops Canning.

William Cloud, born in Wiltshire, England, 7 June 1621; married at Calne, Wiltshire, England, 7 June 1647 to Susan James, born Calne, 28 March 1623; died at Calne, about 1663, daughter of Richard James Jr. William Cloud was granted 530 acres of Pennsylvania land by William Penn, 31 February 1682 and emigrated to the Colony of Pennsylvania late in 1682 or early in 1683. He died in Concord Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania in 1702. His will was proved 25 August 1702.

William Cloud is the son of William I and Joanne (?) Cloude. William II was born in 1620 at Calne, England and married there June 1647 Susan James. His will of July 20, 1700 was proved at Philadelphia Pa. Aug. 25, 1702 (in Book B-244). He died at Cooncord, Chester Co., Pa. Date of inventory was Oct. 17, 1702.

A member of the Frineds Church, William Cloud of Calne (Seene), Wiltshire, on May 16, 1660 was at a meeting broken up by soldiers with "swords drawn and pistols cockt". William was in gaol for a time (Bessee's "Sufferins of Frinds Vol. 2, Ch. 2, page 39). On the 12th month, seventh day, 1680 William represented Calne at a monthly metting at Marlborough, but hte 6th month, 7th day 1682, he was charged at a monthly meeting "with disorderly walking, contrary to truth". On Sept. 8 & ( 1681, while still in England, he purchased from William Penn 500 acres of land, though to be in Pennsylvania, southward of Naaman's Creed (see "Colonial and Revolutionarey Lineages of America", Vol. 2). He came to America in late 1682 or early 1683 and found the above mentioned land to be in Rockland Manor, Brandywine 100, NewCastle Co., Delaware. He lived on other land purchased Oct. 7, 1682 and which he laid out in Concord Twp., Chester Co., Pa. He was a member of Chichester Friends Monthly Meeting. In his will in the Registrar's office at Philadelphia he mentions sons William, Jeremiah, Joseph, Joeh, and Rober; dau Susannah Lukens living in England, and granddaughter Hanna Cloud, dau. of Jeremiah. (Chester Co. Will Book B-244)

JOSEPH CLOUD b. Sept. 26, 1651; died Oct. 19, 1739 (Will Book 2-47 West Chester Pa.) m. 1698 Mary (Green) Moore, widow of Richard and dau. of Thomas & Margaret Green. He came to the colony before his father and brothers. (Children: Joseph m. Elizabeth Oborn m. 2nd Hannah Baldwin; Mary m. Peter Kerlu; Ann m. Fredrich Enger m. 2nd Jonathan Vernon).
SUSAN CLOUD born Oct. 21, 1653 and died young.
SUSANNAH CLOUD b. Nov. 14, 1655, married a Mr. Lukens and lived in England.
ROBERT CLOUD (shoemaker) b. July 9, 1656; m. July 29, 1682 at Calne, England Phoebe Neale; died New Castle Co., Delaware. (Children: Joseph m. ____Sisley; Rebecca m. Thomas White; Robert m. Sarah___).

William Penn on July 20, 1713 patented in New Castle, Del. "land to William Cloud, not deceased, and so to his son Jeremiah Cloud, by request of all of William's children. In a deed Feb. 15, 1713 Jeremiah Cloud of Manor of Rockland and Elizabeth, his wife, granted to his brother John a part of 500 acres.
