"Good News" Theopistos Home Page

Updated January 2, 2001

This is "Good News" Pat Theopistos looking for information on ancestry on the following last names:
1. Niemann, Joachim Peter-father of Johann Heinrich Joachim Ernst Niemann

2. Johann Heinrich Joachim Ernst Niemann, father of Joachim Neumann.

3. Neumann,Joachim, his father changed the last name from Niemann to Neumann in 1824 when he married Ilsabe Marie Schmalfeld of Schilde by Perleberg. Joachim, born in Burghagen by Perleberg,is the only child I know of. He married Anna Dorothea nee Hastedt of Kleinow in 1865 and settled in Perleberg. May have been there for a some time before his marriage. His father and he both were business men of some type in Perleberg. According to Perleberg church records he was both a farmer and a driver. He sired 9 children, but only 4 lived to adulthood. He came to the US from Perleberg, Germany-Prussia in 1884.

4. Kelly-Francis Arthur- my grandfather (Frank Kelly) supposedly born in Mass. evidently born in or around 1879. Was in San Antonio, Texas by 1909. Married widow Anna Luise Minna nee Neumann Newman in 1910 and had two daughters, Dorothy Eileen Kelly(b. Sept 23, 1910, d. Aug 10, 1992 and Eugenia Anna Kelly (b. Jan 5, 1914) Marriage didn't last. Seems to have left San Antonio by 1916.

5. Draehn (Drahn) also from Perleberg, arrived in US in 1883. Were related to Neumanns. This Draehn, Johann Joachim Draehn, born in August of 1840, was son of Johann Heinrich Draehn and Catherine Marie Dorothea nee Barthels from Reetz, by Bresch-also not far from Perleberg. Johann Joachim was born in Reetz, but married the sister of the girl who married Joachim Neumann-Johanna Caroline nee Hastedt of Kleinow in 1866. Johann Joachim and Johanna Caroline settled in Perleberg and immigrated in 1883 with son Wilhelm, daughter Wilhelminna, and niece, Marie Friederike Dorothea Neumann-Joachim and Anna Dorothea nee Hastedt Neumann's daughter. The father of Johann Joachim Draehn, Johann Heinrich Draehn, may moved to the US with his wife probably in the 1860's. He seems to have already emigrated by the time of his son's wedding in Kleinow. His Father was Johann Christoph Drahn-ancestor of Drahns of Iowa. It is also possible that he (Johann Heinrich) arrived ahead of his wife who may have come in 1869 with a son named Hermann-who is ancestor of the Dreahns in Texas.

NOTE: Anyone researching Drahns would likely be researching Draehn's actually. In Germany, many Draehns spelled it Drahn with an Umlaut-2 dots over the "a", and only those knowing German phonics would know that when you drop the umlaut, you replace it with an "e" after the vowel that lost its umlaut. Hence many Drahn descendents because of American ignorance of German phonics left the unlaut off and did not replace it with the letter "e". As a result the pronunciation should sound similar to "Drane or Dran or even Dren" while spelled Drahn.

6. Gibson-ancestors of Allen T. (Monkey Joe) Gibson._I found information on the Gibson line my granfather Allen came from on a page giving the descendents of Thomas Gibson. Use FTM's name search for Thurman and Dorothy Gibson and you will find them on page 3 of Thomas Gibson's descendents.

7. Theopistos-from Ioninna, Greece-1st name Michael-original last name being Bakalis. He took his wife's last name. She was supposedly was a widow at the time of marriage to Michael, who was required to change his last name to Theopistos if he wanted to marry her. Two sons and one daugher emigrated from Greece; my father-in-law, Demetrios Michael, his brother -Alexander (who changed his last name to Mitchell, and their sister, Andromache. These were the Theopistos children that came over to the US.

8. Lucas or Lukatch-from Stelbach, Hungary in the 1800s.Have only a little information on these.

9. Newman, Harry-supposed to have married my grandmother while in Louisiana-sometime around 1904 or 1905. A daughter, Esther Dorothea Newman, was born in August of 1905 evidently in New Orleans. H. Newma
