This genealogy work is dedicated to my father Glendon Gilbert Thiessen, my grandma Helen Norweda Springer, and my (step)grandpa Johnny Fuchs, Jr.Losing these people the last few years made me want to memorialize who we are and who we were and where we came from for future generations. I would also like to thank Troy Thiessen and Dean King for doing so much of this work. Thanks to Carrie Schlumbohm and her uncle, Doug Schlumbohm for contributing much of the information on Henry Thiessen's descendants. Thanks to Muriel Turner for her information on the descendants of Peter F. Thiessen. Thanks to Donald Nikkel for his information on the descendants of Sarah Thiessen and Franz(Frank) Nikkel.Much thanks go to those who compiled genealogical data for Amish & Mennonite ancestors. There are too many of them to list here.As you can see, these people did most of the work! Following is a brief overview of some of my ancestors. THIESSEN:Peter Thiessen and family immigrated to the US via the port of New York, NY July 4, 1883 via the "Lessing".They settled in Waldeck, Marion Co., KS.They then moved to OK, possibly taking part in the land run of the opening of the Cherokee Strip(September 1893).During this time, Peter's wife, Katharina, left him.He apparently went back to Russia to marry a widow who had six children. Some members of the family (Peter F., Frank and Sarah Nikkel, and D.J. and Lena Classen) moved to CA sometime around the start of the Dust Bowl era.Peter and his new wife also settled in CA.Thiessen's have remained in OK and CA for the most part. They were Mennonite's and were part of the migration that occurred from Russia. Many families remained behind and suffered greatly during World War I and the Russian Revolution of 1917.During WWII, many families ceased to exist. Research on the Thiessen line is now concentrated on trying to find other members of Peter's family. My speculation is that he was the son of a Johann Thiessen (son of Johann Johann Thiessen) and _____ Esau, who lived in Sparrau in the Molotschna Colony.I believe he had at least two brothers, Abraham and Johann(John) and three sisters whose names are unknown at this time. MILLER, HOCHSTETLER, YODER:These families migrated from the Bern area of Switzerland during the early and mid 1700's. They came to the US on the ships "Phoenix", "Charming Nancy" (or "Harle"), and others. They settled in Berk's Co., PA.When these Amish Mennonite settlements became too crowded, new settlements were established in Somerset Co., PA.Some members of the family migrated to OH and then to IN.The Miller's spent some time in MO and MI.When the Carney'smarried into the Miller family, they moved to KS and then on to OK. CARNEY:The first Carney came from the North of Ireland and settled in PA.He then moved on to OH, married and had children there. The family then moved to LaGrange Co., IN.My branch of the Carney's then moved to Plains, KS and lived their for about 7 years before settling in the Hydro, OK area. BARKER:The Barker line has been traced all the way back to Capt. John Barker, master of the ship "Abraham".He settled in Surry Co., VA in the 1635.My research leads me to believe that the Barkers were part of Bacon's Rebellion in 1676. My branch of the family migrated to NC, then AL, then AR, then IT(Indian Territory)/OK. SPRINGER:My Springer line starts in Union Co., SC with Jonathon. The famaily migrated to AL, MS, AR, TX, and OK.More research is being done on this line of my family. Research continues on all branches above. Please email me if you believe you may have more information.Any information i can provide, I will. Please note the email address must be manipulated before emailing me.This was done to keep the Spam-bots from picking it up.
