 Includes NotesNotes for Paul WARRICK:
PAUL WARRICK (1847 - 1914)

According to an entry in a Warrick family Bible, Paul Warrick was born February 25, 1847 in Bedford City, Bedford Co., Virginia. He died in Wilberforce, OH, on February 15, 1914, and is interred at the Massies Creek Cemetery, Greene County, OH. He married Mary Eliza Bridges on January 15, 1880, in Kenton County, KY.

It is not known, at this time, when or why Paul left Bedford, Virginia, but he did move to Kenton County, KY, before 1880, it was there that he married Mary Eliza Bridges, daughter of Rev. Anderson Bridges, in 1880. They were married in Payne Chapel, Kenton Co., KY, on January 15, 1880, according to the family Bible. (Is Payne the name of a town? My map does not show the details of this area.)

Neither Anderson nor Richard Bridges (who were two of the witnesses to the wedding) could be found in the 1880 Soundex for Kentucky, and Paul and Mary Warrick would not yet be listed as the Soundex only records families with children under 10. Nor was Matilda listed. But, if we can find the town, the census can be examined line by line. Kenton County, KY is in the northern-most part of the state, just south of Cincinnati, OH, and just south of the Ohio River.

Paul and Mary Eliza (Bridges) Warrick left Kentucky sometime after May 1892, when their daughter Vergie was born (in Kentucky), as in the 1900 Census, they were living on Wilberforce Pike, Xenia Township, Greene County, Ohio.

In the 1900 Census for Ohio, taken on June 2nd, Paul (52) and Mary E. (39) Warrick were living in Xenia Township, Green Co., Ohio, with their children William A. (19), Mabel C. (17), Ophelia P. (15), Ennis C. (13), and Vergie L. (8). Paul's mother Matilda Warrick (75) was also living with them. Paul was working as a janitor, and their home was rented. Paul, Mary, and all of the children, could read and write, but Matilda could not. Their color was listed as black. Matilda was listed as the mother of six children, two living. Mary was listed as the mother of five children, five living. (Which doesn't account for the birth and death of Roland (1885 – 1889). Paul and Mary's son William was listed as a soldier, and all of the other children were in school.

In 1910, this Warrick family was living in Xenia, Green Co., Ohio, at a home that they owned. The family was listed as Paul (61), Mary E. (48), Mabel C. (26), Ennis C. (23), Alvergie L. (17), and Matilda J. (93). All were listed as “mulatto.” Mary was listed as the mother of three children, with three children living. According to these records, Paul was listed as born in VA to parents, both born in Virginia, and Mary was born in KY, to parents, both born in KY. The children, Mabel, Ennis, and Alvergie, were all born in KY. Matilda, was listed as a widow, born in Virginia, to parents both born in Virginia. At this time, Paul was working as a janitor at Wilberforce College, and their home was owned. Mabel was working as a teacher in the public schools, and Ennis was working in a hotel. All of the household could read and write English, with the exception of their elderly grandmother, Matilda, who could not.

In 1920, Mary E. Warrick was living on Wilberforce Street, Xenia Township, Greene Co., OH, head of household, and living alone. She was listed as black, 56, and able to read and write. Of interest, perhaps is that a near-by household includes a William J. Anderson, mulatto (48). He was born in OH, both parents both born in KY. Is this perhaps a relative?

Paul and Mary Eliza (Bridges) Warrick had the following children:

1.William Anderson Warrick, was born January 1, 1881, in Kentucky. In 1900, he was listed in the U.S. Census for Ohio as a soldier. He married Kathryn Smith of Harrisburg, PA at Harrisburg. William died in 1928, most likely in the Harrisburg, PA area.

I could not find William in the 1920 Soundex for Ohio. Perhaps he had moved to Pennsylvania by this time?

William Anderson Warrick (1881-1928) is interred at Massies Creek Cemetery, Greene County, OH. Warrick Barrett, the grandson of William's brother Ennis, says that he knows nothing of his wife and the late children, but that they are presumably interred in the Harrisburg, PA area.

A.William Anderson Warrick, (twin) b. 1/1923, d. 1940 at Harrisburg;

B.________ Warrick (twin) born January 1923. Died 1924 at Harrisburg.
