John S. SILVERS was born on Mar 22 1845 in Madison Co., Missouri.He was moved back to Kentucky in 1858 in Missouri to Kentucky.John Jr. and his parents moved back to Pulaski Co., Kentucky from Mason Co., Missouri in 1858 where he received his education in the common schools at the Masonic College, Somerset, Kentucky.He was a farming and teaching school between 1865 and 1871 in Pulaski Co., Kentucky.He was a salesman in a general store between 1871 and 1875 in Somerset, Kentucky.He was a wholesale dry goods merchant between 1875 and 1878 in Louisville, Kentucky.John worked for Davis, Trabue & Co.He was a deputy county clerk and jailer between 1878 and 1886 in Somerset, Kentucky.John was a deputy county clerk from 1878 to 1882.In the August election of 1882, he was elected jailer and served one term of 4 years after which he again became deputy county clerk under John S. May.He appeared on the census in 1890 in Wayne Co., Kentucky.John is found in the 1890 census for Wayne Co., KY on page 131, Millsprings Voting Pct. in the KY 1890 Veterans Schedule.His Political Party: Republican all Adult life in Kentucky.He served in the military Civil War in Kentucky.John enlisted in the Union army Co C 3rd KY Inf, on September 1 1861, under the command of Col. Thomas E. Bramlette and Capt. D.H. Denton.He served until Nov. 1862 when he was appointed regimental bugler and acted in that capacity until Oct. 13, 1864.He mustered out at Louisville, KY and returned to Pulaski County.In March of 1865, John enlisted in a company of State troops and remained until July 1885.John is listed in the 1890 Kentucky Veterans Census list.He died in Somerset, Pulaski Co., Kentucky.Tombstone reads: John Silvers, Co C, 3rd KY Inf.There are no dates on the tombstone.He was buried in Somerset Cemetery, Somerset, Kentucky.
