Notes: Charles was a Baptist.Fathered at least eleven
child ren.May have had three wives.Looking at the births of
the children there was probably an other wife before Eliza. He
obtained a marriage license at the courthouse Dec 2, 1871. He
married Rebecca McKinnie Dec 4, 1871.She is appears on the 1870 census as living
next door to Cha rles and Eliza.? Charles had a grand daughter
Jennie Willis, d aughter of Albert Sr., who married her cousin,
the grandson of Charles' brother Shed. The man in question was
John Wood, son of Shed's daughter Martha Willis and David Wood.
Charles does not appear on the male voter's
list of 1891 . Many other males in the family do, so I am
assuming he is dead by this time. None of the older members of
the family have any recollection of him so I am sure he was
deceased by this time. They say he left Georgia with " the white
folks" and came to Tennessee.About the time the family arrived
in Bolivar, 1868 the area was in themidst of a Yellow fever
outbreak, Smallpox was in th e area also. The cotton crop was
poor that year because of decreased man power .
