He inadvertently killed King Henry II of France in a dueling contest on 30 Jun 1559. He was aligned with Protestants in several religious wars. He was in exile in Cornwall, but returned to France where he was sentenced to death and beheaded i Paris on 26 Jun 1574. His daughter, Gabrielle married Gawine Champernowne. They had nine children.
