      4. Andrew2 Thompson (David1) was born 1809 in Pennsylvania. He married Nancy Burt 1833, daughter of Silas Burt and Elizabeth//. She was born 1813, and died 1881.

Notes for Andrew Thompson:
"Took charge of the homestead farm until 1840 and then moved to Coshocton County. In 1847 they returned and purchased the homestead and Mrs. Thompson died there in 1881. ... Mr. Thompson is a retired farmer and owns 160 acres."

      5. David Glenn2 Thompson (David1) was born May 07, 1814 in Pennsylvania, and died 1890. He married Agnes Miranda Oxley June 08, 1854 in Cambridge, Guernsey County, Ohio, daughter of Joel Oxley and Nancy King. She was born March 26, 1834 in Smithfield, Jefferson County, Ohio, and died March 23, 1910 in Cambridge, Guernsey County, Ohio.

Notes for David Glenn Thompson:
"The growing family lived at various places in the rolling hills of southeastern Ohio in the years that followed. They moved in 1858 to New Concord, in Musingum County, lived for a time at Brownsville in the southeast corner of Licking County, at Sego, and at Zanesville, the bustling county seat of Musingum County. The family was poor but industrious."

Settled near New Concord, Ohio.

"With a partner he ventured later into the shoe business in Cabridge but this undertaking was a casualty of the Panic of 1857."

Enlisted on May 2, 1864 at the age of 44 as a Private in Company D, 160th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry. Returned to civilian life on September 7, 1864 and family moved to Zanesville, Ohio.

Battles Fought
Battle at Newtown, Virginia on 28 May 1864, Battle on 04 July 1864, Battle at Maryland Heights, Maryland on 07 July 1864, Battle at Browns Crossing, Virginia on 05 August 1864, Battle at Maryland Heights, Maryland on 13 August 1864.

Sustained an injury to his foot during the retreat from the last battle from which it is said that blood oozed out of his shoe tops during the attack, defeat, and retreat. He was a cripple for the rest of his life and settled in New Concord as a maker of fine boots.

"To assist in the support of the family, taught in the primary room of the Cabridge (Ohio) schools, then located in the old Masonic building on N. Seventh Street."

"Agnes Miranda Oxley Thompson was, in the words of a member of the family, his (William Oxley Thompson, her son) his "guiding star." It was she who taught him arithmetic and spelling and it was she who had high hopes for him even a an early age."
