 Includes NotesNotes for Rebecca Eaton:
The 1860 U.S. Census of Allen Township, Union County, Ohio shows Rebecca and Malin Thompson living there. Three children are listed in the census: Charles, age 5, Ira age 3, and Evan age 1. Malin's occupation is given as a farmer.

The 1870 U.S. Census of Allen Township, Union County, Ohio (Series Roll 1274, p. 8) shows Rebecca, Charles, Ira, Elisha, John, and James living in the household of John Thompson, age 73. The post office address for the residence was Milford Center. Rebecca is listed as keeping house, and an occupation is not given for any of the boys. Charles, at age 16, is the oldest boy. The boys listed are Charles, Ira, Elisha, John, and James.

The 1880 U.S. Census of Allen Township, Union County, Ohio shows Rebecca living in the household of Charles Thompson and his wife Zilda. Rebecca is listed as keeping house; Ira is listed as a farmer; Norris is listed as a farmer; John is listed as at home; and Ulysts is listed as at home. Rebecca is listed as 43, Ira as 23, Norris as 21, John as 19, and Ulysts as 16. All of the boys are listed as born in Ohio while Rebecca is listed as born in Virginia as were her parents.

Rebecca eventually received a pension as a widow of a Civil War Soldier. Included in Mahalon's pension file from the National Archives is a statement dated November 3, 1910, from W. L. Curry, United States Pension Agent for the United States Pension Agency, Columbus, Ohio. It states that Rebecca Thompson, widow of Mahalon who served in Company D or the 136th O.V.I., has been dropped because of information that the pensioner died August 6, 1910. It further states that Rebecca was last paid $12 to 1 June 1910.

Among the papers in Mahalon's pension file from the National Archives is an affidavit from Caroline Brown stating that her pension certificate as a widow of the Civil War soldier, William H. Brown, was in a trunk belonging to Rebecca Thompson that was destroyed by fire in a train car in McMinnville, Warren County, Tennessee, on the night of April 1, 1890. Rebecca's possessions had been loaded onto the train for her return to Ohio. The affidavit is witnessed by E. L. Thompson, presumably Elisha Layton Thompson, and Levi Jones. Other affidavits signed by Levi Jones indicate that possessions of both Caroline Brown and Rebecca Thompson were burned in the fire. Caroline Brown was the mother of Alma Brown Thompson, and Rebecca Thompson was the mother of Elisha Layton Thompson. Apparently, both mothers-in-law had been in McMinnville with their children.
