 Includes NotesNotes for Phillip Brookins:
According to Josiah Gilbert Holland, writing in The History of Western Massachusetts, The Counties of Hampden, Franklin, and Berkshire (1885, p. 533), Phillip Brookins was among a group of settlers who came to New Marlborough in 1741. Others coming in 1741 included Noah Church, Jabez Ward, Thomas Tattlow, Elias Keyes, Joseph Blackmer, Jesse Taylor, John Taylor, and William Witt. This Elias Keyes was likely the brother of Phillip's wife, Sarah Keyes. Township No. 2 was granted to 72 proprietors, living mostly in Marlborough, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, in 1736.

According to A History of The County of Berkshire, Massachusetts: In Two Parts (1829, p. 292) authored by "Gentlemen in the County, Clergymen and Laymen," Phillip Brookins settled in New Marlborough in 1741 along with the same settlers listed by Josiah Gilbert Holland. The first children born in town were twin children of Phillip Brookins, a son and a daughter. The daughter was still living at the time of the writing of the history in 1829. However, the history fails to provide the name of either child.

According to A Standard History of The Hanging Rock Iron Region of Ohio, Volume II (1983, p. 1125), Phillip was married Sarah Keyes in Lancaster, Massachusetts on November 7, 1727. In 1741, he moved to New Marlboro in Berkshire County, Massachusetts. He was the father of a large family, and family historians believe that twelve or thirteen of his sons were soldiers on the American side during the Revolutionary War. One of those sons was Captain Ithamar Brookins.
