He married Mary Wolford on June 25, 1785 in Bedford County, Pennsylvania17, 18, daughter of James Wolford and Mary Dieffenderfer.

According to the History of Union County edited by Col. W. L. Curry (p 514-15), Abraham's ancestors emigrated from Switzerland about the beginning of the eighteenth century. He was born in Pennsylvania, and in 1785 he married Mary Wolford. In 1801 he moved to Belmont County, Ohio. In 1817 he purchased one thousand acres in Paris Township, Union County, Ohio for the price of two dollars per acre. He moved to that land in 1817 bringing with him six sons --- John, Andrew, Moses, Frederick, Jeremiah, and Abraham Jr. Four of the sons were married at the time and brought their families with them.

According to the Family Heritage Union County, Ohio 1985 published by the Union County History Book Committee (p. 6-7), Abraham moved from Pennsylvania to St. Clairsville, Belemont County, Ohio in 1801. In 1817, he moved to Union County, Ohio, bringing with him all of his sons except Henry. In 1820, Abraham enticed Henry to join the rest of the family in Union County. Abraham gave Henry 100 acres and the site for a mill on Mill Creek. Henry built a sawmill in 1822 and added a grist mill in 1825.

According to the application of Nellie Virginia Hall Marker for membership to the DAR (Lineage Books of the National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution, Vol. 157, p. 75), Abraham was born in Bedford County, Pennsylvania in 1760 and died in Union County, Ohio in 1849. He served as a ranger on the frontier of Pennsylvania during the Revolutionary War.
