Descendants of James Thom(p)son

Generation No. 2

2. WILLIAM2 THOMPSON (JAMES1 THOM(P)SON) was born Aft. 1775 in Union Co., SC, and died in Alabama. He married UNKNOWN.

Notes for W
ILLIAM THOMPSON:
settled on 12 Mile Creek 8 miles north of Pendleton Village. Left South Carolina and killed in an Indian uprising in Alabama - date unk.
===========================================================================
The following scenario is pure hypothesis and supposition -

I have discovered a large number of THOMPSONs in Wilcox Co. AL in the 1850 census; mostly all of the heads of household and spouses were born in South Carolina. William is know to have been born in SC and died in AL. There is an older woman, Lucy Thompson age 65, residing with James E. Thompson (b. 1818) and his family. There are a large number of Georges, Williams, James' and Roberts amongst this group of THOMPSONs (mostly all farmers, as was William's son Charles) which would be consistent with naming children after a grandfather, father, uncle, and in keeping with the names of Charles' children, and also the fact that I too was named after two of my father's brothers, and am therefore a 4th generation George, ... presumably going back to George McDuffie THOMPSON my GGgrandfather (unless of course William may have had a brother George).

Children of W
ILLIAM THOMPSON and UNKNOWN are:
3. i.   CHARLES3 THOMPSON, b. 1799, Pendleton District, SC; d. 1873, Pendleton District, SC.
4. ii.   LYDIA THOMPSON, b. Bet. 1806 - 1813; d. March 21, 1889, Oconee Co., SC.
  iii.   RANSOM THOMPSON, b. 1818; d. January 8, 1891, Pickens, SC.
  Notes for RANSOM THOMPSON:
rcvd. March 18,2000 in an email from Karen Joan Nix Stewart Booth

In Ransom's estate the following was listed:

Robert A. Thompson, John W. F. Thompson, Rebecca M. Grant (my
gg-grandmother), George McD. Thompson, S. Francis Hamilton, Charles Neal,
Silas M. Neal, John W. Neal (my gg-grandmother's brothers), the heirs of
Abbie Dean, the heirs of Dempsey Thompson and the heirs of Rebecca Evett.
Any idea to who the last three are? Ransom died 8 Jan 1891 at the age of 73
years of age. He is buried at Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church - which is
where Rebecca and her husband are buried (right beside where I grew up). I
have a picture of his grave marker.
