"About our relatives, beginning with Grandpa (Stewart Gibson) he built his log house on a high hill, because of the natural spring supply there on the other side. I
remember later seeing the remain sof that cabin. With help he soon built a frame house, 2 bedrooms, a pantry, a large kitchen, an open fire place with cranes and hooks to hang pots and kettles on, and a stove hearth.

I have seen Grandma bake bread in what they called a baking oven. It had 4 legs, closed tin all around bottom and top, only the front nearest the fireplace was open. To bake beans they would put the pot of beans on the stove hearth, or floor and rake the burning coals all around the pot."
