Drowned in ship wreck on Lake Erie. Sarah and her sister Mary, who had married brothers, Rollin
Pelton and Milo Pelton, while on the way to Pettis Township, Pike Co, Il, encountered a violent storm on the Lake. The compass was out of order, they drifted on Long Point bar on the Canadian shore where
the vessel, a sailing craft, was pounded to pieces.The waves swept over all, the two wives and the infant son Ephraim Pelton by Sarah were drowned. The two brothers were saved.They were on their way to join Maj. Stephen Pettis, father of Sarah and Mary , who had settled previously at Pettis Township. Pike Co. Il.
