John, as a youth, was sent to France to expand his education.While there his father died.Upon returning to Somerset, England, a dispute arose with his brothers concerning the settlement of the estate.John accepted 100 pounds and soon after booked passage to America.
Came to America 1634, joined Plymouth Colony. Tradition ways he was the first Latin School teacher in the Plymouth Colony and that he taught Elder Brewster the Hebrew.
