Notes for A
NDREW JACKSON HOLLOWAY:
Notes by Peggy-Holloway-Thompson;
The following is census data concerning and connecting A. J. to the rest of his family. Andrew J. first appears in census data of 1850, Wilkes County, North Carolina living with the Hampton Holloway his father and Polly his proposed mother. Andrew Jackson is going by the name of Jackson... and was age 17. His birth year here would be 1833. Now his birth date and birth place seems to change by the census. But that naturally would depend on how informed the person anwsering the questions of the census taker was. And must be considered in that light. This has shaken our confidence more than once, and caused me to move his birth date many times. His birth place in family stories has it they were from the area of Chatanooga, Tenn. Peggy's family were in that area, for certain. And may account for this. As his birth place changes on the census data, we can't say with complete certanity where his true birth place was at this time.
The following census 1860 finds him married, in Marion County, Tenn. So at this point we can only say he was then likely married before the census in 1860, and likely in Tenn. He was living with his wife Margaret "Peggy" Tharp-Holloway, and daughter Rebecca Ann, in 1860.
1870's census A.J. has moved his family moved to Osage County, Missouri. They now have Rebecca, Daniel, Anthony, Nancy, William.
In 1880 they have now moved to Fulton County, Arkansas, and appear to remain there. At this point they have added to the list of children, A., John, Susannah, and Jesse. These children were born in Missouri except for Jesse who was born in Arkansas.
"A." is rather a chalenge. "A" is on the census as a female. The "A." dosen't match the family bible records, which shows all the others. For her I have Erie, in the Bible. My thoughts were the census taker may have heard Arie, or Aye Ree, didn't really understand the name enough to write it out, and placed only an A. age 4, female, born in Missouri. I hope to work this out at some point.

Margaret appears to have died before A.J., Aline Luoma found A.J. living with his son John Holloway in 1910 census.
This family travels the same route as family stories of origins of our Holloways set out by John Holloway born 1911.
And matches pretty well so far, to that oral history, with few hick ups. (See John Holloway born 1911). Not bad considering this was oral history.

The remainder is data, and notes; Census Data following below comes from John T. Barr;

Who do you think "W.M. Holloway" is? He lived close to your grandpa in South Fork Twp. It is possible though that it is your grandpa and the transcriber just couldn't make out the writing. The folks from Washington Twp. belong to the "other" Fulton county Holloways that we haven't been able to make a convincing tie to yet. Dan is Rhonda's Gr.Grandpa but we don't know who J.D. Holloway is --- maybe John, he was born in 1874.
