Notes for R
ICHARD THOMPSON:
Mary E. Thompson, of Louisa, Ky., wife of Roy Thompson and daughter of David L. Thompson, Sr. and Samantha Blackburn states in1979: "It is known from deeds, census lists, and family associations that Richard Thompson, Sr. and his seven sons and three daughters came to Floyd Co., Ky. between 1800 and 1810. His sons were Samuel, Andrew, and James who settled in the Little Blaine section of Lawrence County, Kentucky. Richard, Jr. and George settled around the Big Blaine and Big Branch sections of the county. William and John settled on the W. Va. side of the Big Sandy River. William owned and operated the first sawmill on the W. Va. side on Mill Creek. Richard, Jr. remained in Lawrence Co. for only a few years and then returned to Russell Co., Va. where he died about 1830. Richard, Sr.'s three daughters were Nancy, Rebecca, and Margaret.
The 1742 birthdate for Richard comes from a document by Richard in 1822 sent to Edward Burgess in which he states his age to be "about" 80.
Richard Thompson's name appears on the roster of North Carolina soldiers in the Revolutionary War. He served in the capacity of corporal under Colonel Abraham Buford's Regiment. His pension # is S.35808.
The above statements are proven facts and have been accepted by the National Daughters of the American Revolution (Lawrence Co., Ky., Order Book 1, pages 38-39, DAR Lineage Papers). The following statements are not proven, but appear to be accurate.
The father of Richard Thompson was Capt. John Thomson (notice the absence of the "p" in the name) who settled in North Carolina after immigrating from Ireland. Capt. John's father was Samuel Thomson, who with Carter Braston, Richard Carlvin, John Blair, Thomas Walker, Gilmer, and others made the earliest petition for a large "land grant" in the Big Sandy Valley. They sought the Honorable John, Earl of Dunmore, Royal Governor of Virginia, April 25, 1772, for 59,000 acres of land beginning at the mouth of the Louisa River (later known as the Levisa Fork) and extending along the Big Sandy to the Ohio River. The next year, 1773, General William Thompson, a brother to Capt. John, came to the Lawrence Co. region and soon after the war ended (Revolutionary) Richard, Sr. came with his family and settled on both sides of the Big Sandy."

Notes for M
ARGARET BARR:
According to Lloyd Licco Moore of Galloway, Ohio, Margaret Barr was full Cherokee Indian. He has documentation of that fact and will send me a copy.

Notes for E
LIZABETH UNKNOWN:
The absence of a marriage record seems to indicate that Elizabeth and Richard were common-law husband and wife, but never actually married.
      Elizabeth was Cherokee Indian.
