Notes for Roy Thomas: Roy suffered his first heart attack when he was in his early 40's.
Later in life he went to the doctor complaining of his feet being cold all the time. After an examination, the Doctor said that his arteries were clogged and that the first thing they needed to do was open the vessels to his brain, which was subsequently done. To improve the circulation to his feet and lower body, they did open heart surgery and opened him quite a ways down. He had a heart attack while in the recovery room. He lived but was unable to return to work. Due to the lack of circulation he developed sugar diabetes and was on insulin the rest of his life.
He died due to a stroke, which was something he worried about since it was common to diabetics. He used to say that he didn't want to be a vegetable in a wheel chair. He died in his sleep. The day before he had his best golf game ever.
Some family tales say that Roy was born in Grasselli (sp) West Virginia. Other reports say that he was born in Anmore. I think that the town of Grasselli may have become Anmore.
