3. DOUGALD⁴ MACDONALD (PETER³, JOHN², PETER¹) was born Abt. 1836 in Creignish Rear, CB, NS, and died Abt. 1890 in Creignish Rear, CB, NS. He married CATHERINE MACDONALD Abt. 1865 in Cape Breton, NS. She was born Abt. 1844 in Canada, and died Aft. 1891 in Creignish Rear, CB, NS.

Notes for DOUGALD MACDONALD:
Dougald MacDonald m. Catherine MacDonald. She was a native of Canada, but her father was born in Scotland and her mother is listed as having been born in Nova Scotia. She was born about 1844 and died sometime after the census of 1891. Dougald was a farmer and lived with his wife and children on the western half of the property claimed by his father, Peter. The other half of the property had already been given over to Dougald's brother, John. Dougald and Catherine probably married in January 1865 in Creignish and because he must have been alive to have fathered his daughter, Mary Kate who was 3 years old in 1891, he must have died somewhere between 1887 and prior to when the census was taken in 1891. Catherine lived until after 1891 but probably died before 1895.

Notes for MARGARET (MAGGIE) MACDONALD:
Maggie was married to Paul Keller, a professor of classical languages at the Boston Latin School. Maggie was run over by a truck one day in about 1948 and, it is believed that Paul died in Massachusetts in July of 1963.

Notes for PAUL KELLER:
When their nephew, Donald MacMasters, was a young man and lived in the Boston area, Donald got to know a lot about uncle Paul. He tells us that when Paul was a young man, he killed a man in his native Vienna, and went off to join the French Foreign Legion. Eventually, he made his way to the United States where he met Maggie. He served as a Captain in the United States Army during the World War at which time he fought against his brother who was then serving in the German Army. They lived in the Brockton, Massachusetts area, a suburb of Boston. He liked to travel and made several trips (without Maggie) to Europe.

He also enjoyed dancing and would take his niece Teresa (Donald MacMaster's mother) with him to the dances at the German Club on Thursday nights. Skating was also a pastime of his, and so, we are told that he built a rink in his own back yard, and there he skated to the melodies of his favourite music playing there on his gramophone.

John MacDonald was born about 1878. He married but moved away to live in Trenton, Nova Scotia.

Alexander (Sandy) MacDonald n.m. moved away a lived for a while in the Hamilton, Ont. area. His obituary appeared in Hamilton on March 10th, 1956. He was about 75 years old at the time of his death.
