We are looking for my grandfather, Smith THORPE. Can you help us? He came out from Dukinfield, County Cheshire, England in the 1880's at age 14 and settled in Central Falls, Rhode Island. But it seems that he may have gone out one night for a newspaper and forgot to come home. We have no further record of him after the very early 1900's, around 1902-04. We have traced his ancestors (George b 1847, Thomas D. b 1823,and James b.1787). We also have abundant information on his descendants in the United States which we are happy to share. Thus far, our research into the THORPE family has uncovered the following surnames: Adlard, Alesandro, Andreozzi, Andrews, Aunchman, , Ball, Basham, Basitic, Belair, Bishop, Brandt, Brown, Buffum, Cabezud, Carpenter, Carr, Cass, Clark, Cohen, Contreras, Corbeil, Craignan, Crippen, Dahlquist, DeHaas, Dickenson, Dionne, Drake, Fogarty, Fornier, Fracassi, Giguere, Gill, Goldsmith, Gorski, Graves, Hardman, Hadley, Hamel, Harrison, Hilton, Holden, Holmes, Horne, Irwin, Johnson, Knepp, Kraupa, Krekorian, Krueger, Lainhart, Lancaster, Lass, Lozano, Lynch, MacDonald, Mailly, Martin, Mathieu, McDaniel, McNally, McLaughlin, Moran, Murphy, Nance, Nelson, Neumaier, Niles, O'Connell, Otis, Parks, Patistas, Pearson, Pereira, Perrault, Phillips, Pickle, Pointon, Priestley, Procario, Provencal, Rea, Ricard, Roark, Ruthowski, Samuelsen, Seaton, Shaerer, Smith, Swendalls, Taylor, Thorpe, Torngren, Tweedie, Verecca, Veregra, Virke, Wade, Wadsworth,Watson, Whited, Wood and Wulff.

We are also searching for more information on my mother's ancestor, Peter MACDONALD (1802-ca.1890). He lived and farmed in Creignish Rear, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Family oral tradition has it that his father's name was John and his grandfather was Peter. It is possible that they came from South Uist, an island off Scotland's west coast across from Moidart, and arrived in the Pictou area of Nova Scotia or in Prince Edward Island in the late 1700's as part of the great emigration occurring at that time. We have done extensive research on his descendants and have much information to share.

Our research thus far includes, but is not limited to, the following family names: Adlerd, Alice, Bachey, Barras, Berner, Booker, Boyd, Brady, Brown, Burke, Burns, Cameron, Campbell, Carroll, Chadbourne, Chadburn, Chase, Chisolm, Collins, Costello, Curtis, d'Aiguy, DeYoung, Deak, Dibrell, Downs, Drake, Dudley, Edwards, Elliot, Everett, Farley, Farver, Fassell, Ferrara, Fiorini, Foster, Francis, Freeman, Fritz, Gauvry, Gilli(e)s, Ginn, Girard, Glidden, Gordon, Graff, Gray, Hammer, Handley, Hathaway, Hayes, Hills, Howlett, Hutchins, Innocent(e), Jary, Johnson, Keller, Kempf, Kidd, Knepp, Kraupa, Lass, Lee, Leibner, Leonard, Liebke, Lind, Long, Looney, Lubanski, Lund, MacDonald, MacDonnell, MacDougall, MacEachern, MacInnis, MacIntyre, MacKinnon, MacLachlan, MacLean, MacMaster(s), MacPhee, MacNeil, MacSween, Manrodt, Manzo, Martin, McCrae, McCrutcheon, McManus, McNamara, Mellett, Murray, Neithardt, Neorotti, Neumaier, O'Donnell, Oka, Olson, Owen, Patterson, Percel, Perillo, Pettigrew, Pezziminti, Pezzeminti, Piatonni, Pinch, Pottie, Rankin, Rea, Reed, Sandre, Seymour, Smith, Smolinski, Stanton, Stathos, Stevens, Thorpe, Tomkins, Torngren, Tweedie, Varne, Webb, Williams, Williamson, Workman
