| My family begins with Benjamin and Elizabeth Long. At this time Elizabeth's maiden name is not known. I am uncertain as to where they were born, however from a will probated in Carroll County, Ohio in the August term of 1844, Benjamin resided in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania. From the information given on his will, Benjamin and Elizabeth were the parents of nine children; Samuel, Eloner, Ruth, John G., William born 1809, Martha, Young Benjamin born 1813, Elizabeth and Hannah born 1818. It is my belief that sometime after 1818, Benjamin and Elizabeth moved on to Ohio, to the Tuscarawas-Carroll County area. Ohio marriage records show that William Long married Anna Weaver in 1831; Young Benjamin Long married Catherine Weaver (my ggg-grandparents) in 1834; and Hannah Long married John Weaver in 1837. The Weaver's were siblings and the children of Frederick and Mary (Beamer) Weaver. By 1846, William and Anna Long were in Bartholomew County, Indiana. Young Benjamin and Catherine Long, Hannah and John Weaver were settled there by 1850. They settled in the area called "Ohio Ridge", which became Camp Atterbury in 1942. It is not known if the other Long children stayed in Ohio or moved on elsewhere. Any information regarding my Long family would be appreciated and I am willing to share with anyone researching this line. |
