* THURSTON HOME PAGE*

Updated September 25, 2009

I am researching the agnate (male) line of THURSTON and the agnate line of the many women who married into my pedigree. ie: PRESBY-ADAMS-LUND-HOYT-HOLDER-STRAW-CARR-COLBY-BLAISDELL for my Great-GrandMother; BEAN-SHAW-GOVE-SANBORN-BATCHELDER-PRESCOTT-SMITH for my Great-Great-GrandMother.

I have been successful in finding the parents of my Great-Great-GrandParents, Jonas ADAMS and Sally HOWE. They were from around Nashua, NH where Timothy PRESBY's wife, Clarissa LUND, the Mother of Charles PRESBY was born.

I started with myself as I knew who I was and having had my birth certificate for many purposes, I knew who my parents were. I also knew who my GrandParents were from personal knowledge but I obtained all their birth certificates also.

One word of caution that I am going to put in the beginning of this narrative. I am not and have never been xenophobic. My wife’s mother came from Ireland and my wife's paternal grandparents came from Italy. My Mother’s parents came from Ireland, and my Grandmother’s(my father's mother) parents came from England. So this entire essay will be basically about my Grandfather's (Anson G. THURSTON) Ancestors.

I obtained my Grandfather’s Spanish War Record and learned his parent’s names and that my GGF had served in the Civil War as did his older brother and my 2GGF. I obtained their records and found their wives names and all their places and dates of birth. All the above can be proved by Offical Records, now I have to go into the published Genealogical Histories.

I have used Brown Thurston’s "THURSTON FAMILIES", (2nd Edition 1892) from which I have obtained most of my THURSTON information. But I also used many other sources to up-date my file. I have quite a bit on the witchcraft in the 1630s and later in New England. Click the link below

In Brown Thurston's book, he basically explains how he corresponded with anyone and everyone with the name Thurston and asked for genealogical information from their Family Bibles and personal knowledge. He did an outstanding job considering they did not have computors or even good typewriters. And as we all know, handwriting leaves a lot to be desired and paper folders are difficult to work with. There is one very glaring fact that has made it very diffucult to trace our liniage, that is the names of some of the wives in all three sections of the book are missing. I believe it is because some-one thought they were purifying or cleansing the record.

Using various records and books, I have traced my lineage back to;
Anson G. THURSTON. (GrandFather)

Who was the son of Eben THURSTON, (GreatGrandFather)
who married Sarah PRESBY, (GreatGrandMother)

Who was the son of Joel M. THURSTON, (2GreatGrandFather)
who married Sophia BEAN; (2GreatGrandMother)
and they had Helpy, (GreatGrandAunt) (isn’t that a great name to search for?)

Who was the son of Jonathan THURSTON, (3GreatGrandFather)
who married Polly BERRY; (3GreatGrandMother)

Who was the son of James THURSTON, (4GreatGrandFather)
who married someone whose name was also omitted from Brown’s Tome;

Who was the son of Robert THURSTON, (5GreatGrandFather)
who married Sarah LEAVITT; (5GreatGrandMother)

Who was the son of Stephen THURSTON, (6GreatGrandFather)
who married Mary KNIGHT; (6GreatGrandMother)

Who was the son of Daniel THURSTON (7GreatGrandFather) of Newbury,Ma.
who married Ann PELL; (7GreatGrandMother)
[A nephew of the first older Daniel Thurston, (8GreatGrandUncle)
who married Ann Lightfoot, (8GreatGrandAunt)]
