| We have been able to trace our French Acadian heritage to the1530's, thanks to the wonderful works of Steven White, University of Moncton, Rufine Swan, Paul Pate, and other wonderful people in L'Ardoise, Cape Breton. I am currently working on tracing the Thurlow ancestors. My grandfather, Harley Thurlow, born 1886 in Windsor, Nova Scotia. He married Celeste Briand, from L'Ardoise, Cape Breton and migrated to the states. His father (my great-grandfather) was Ephraim Thurlow, married to Anne Clark. My great-great grandfather was George Thurlow. The family story tells that George stowed away on a ship from England as he was afraid of imprisonment. He might have changed his name as well. Perhaps it was Tetlow, Thurley. I am also working on tracing the Cole ancestors. My great grandfather was Japhet Talbert Cole. He was born 1876 in Moncton, New Brunswick. He married Margaret Keenan, born 1875 in Tyrone County, Ireland. He migratedto the states in 1898 and became a U.S. citizen in 1920. I am especially interested in locating information on his father and mother. The family story tells that his father was sea captain/sailor from England, and his mother (my great-great grandmother) was Mi'kmaq. Any assistance offered would be greatly appreciated and I will be willingly to help anyone with information that I have. |
