Notes for Herman Tietz: In memory of my Pa, "Herman Tietz" by Esther
This is what I remember of the Tietzes and the things which were told to me by my parents. Herman & Wilhelminna Tietz.
My grandparents, Ferdinand Tietz(1835-1902) and Fredricka (Gentz) Tietz (1834-1914) were born in Germany. I never knew them. I was born in 1923. Both of my grandparents had passed away before my time. Ferdinand and Friedricka both came from Ottendorf Kreis: Nangard, Regerungs Bitzuch: Stettin, Germany (Now Poland). They were of the Pomeranian Luete (people) decent located west of the Oder River Known as forepomern, close to the Baltic Sea.
They left Germany about 1856 or 1857 and went to America. "Pioneers as they were called, they staked their land close to Heidelberg, MN near "Grorunda's Lake". This lake was named after the Grorunda's who were there before the Tietzes came. This area was nothing but woods. What Prompted them to settle here? I was told by my father because of the lake. Pioneers could not survive without water so they mostly looked for the source.
