DISCLAIMER: The family information on this page is a conglomeration of PROVEN and UNPROVEN information. Please use this information as stepping stones for ideas and research. You are welcome to contact me with any questions. I am researching the BARLOW, BUNDREN and BUNCH families of East Tennessee. It is turning out to be a facinating project. The family characters range from my grandfather Greenberry Bundren who was a farmer/circuit preacher to my cousin Clarence Bunch who was considered East Tennessee Public Enemy #1 and was shot to death by a group of lawmen in Knoxville in 1932. The first BUNDREN (or BONDURANT) immigrated from France and arrived in Virginia about 1700. The first official record I have been able to find in Tennessee is Greenberry Bundren. He married Morning Bunch 1855 and their son David Washington Bundren, born in 1866, was my grandfather. The first BARLOW I have found was my gteat-great-grandfather Jonathon Barlow born in 1820. The first BUNCH is John Bunch b. about 1636 who was my 7th Great Grandfather. The oldest written record I have found is from the Big Springs Primitive Baptest Church in Springdale, TN.James M. Bunch and Isabella (Taylor) joined the church in 1840.James was quite active until in 1861 when (although he denied the charge)he was excommunicated for drunkeness. He was later reinstated. A great deal of the information in the file was obtained from the Claiborne County Historical & Genealogical Society and my many relatives still living in East Tennessee. My grandmother, Mary Barlow, now deceased, was born in 1877.She passed along a lot of information about her parents and grandparents. I also got a lot of information from my mother, Lucy Bundren. At 95, she's still alive and well and driving her Cadillac around Tazwell, TN.It seems she knew every family member, who they married and what kind of trouble they got into for the past century. At the bottom of the page you will find a link to a searchable database. This is a good tool. You can eaisly find people and generate reports.
