My Family Tree My Father Ernest John Kirkby died when I was 1 year old and last year I had this need to find ot about his family and where they came from. I found ot that his family SAMUEL KIRKBY 1888 & GRACE STOCK 1890 both came from large traditionally english families dating from 1521 with the kirkby's. It was a close knit family and they all stuck together.The kirkby's originate from Trowel in Nottinghamshire and through the years have emigrated south through Lancashire , lincolnshire, cheshire, hertfordshire & essex to hampshire. I have had contacts from Australia & New Zealand. I find it fasinating that we suddenly have family that are only a couple of generations away that we have never known before. A list of names connected to the Kirkby's: Stock Deveriil cox baker barker Ind Ind-Coup Harrington White Carrington/Charrington Greaves Tyrwhitt Cozens/Couzens Batill Bagualey Smalley. After I had started the Kirkby Tree I thought my mothers ancestors were feeling a little left out so I started on the Staffords. James William Stafford (Jim or Bill) was born Hackney London in 1908 where he grow up with hi sister Amy. He thenm Emily mabel King in st albans Hertfordshire in 1932.He worked as a butcher inst albans high street for many years . I can remember going inon some days and shuffleing the sawdust , that was laying on the floor , with my feet. Emily died in 1960 before i was born and Grandad married Mabel. They moved to March in Cambridgeshire in 1973 and grandad died in 1975. William James Stafford Born 1872 married Amy alice Galpin born 1877,in 1896. They had a large family of about 8 children. William was a Letter carrier for the sheriffs office in Homerton.They moved to St Albans in the 1920's and lived in the cottages near St Peters church. I think known as Church Green?. His father William James Stafford born 1848 Husband to Mary Ann Edwards. They were married at shoreditch parish church in 1869. His occupation was to make window blinds for a companyconnected to DEANS BLINDS of HACKNEY. They also had a large family of about 8 - 10 children. Watson Humphreys Stafford born 1818 in Hackney .m. Augusta Pocock in 1841. At this time watson was a clerk/Lawyer/ solicitor, at hommerton sheriffs office, London.we have on record at present they had 6 children. Augusta was born in North End London and was the daughter of James Pocock ,Builder. Now watson we know died in darenth asylem in 1891, after spending serveral years living with Emily Julia Hopkins his daughter,her husband Ambrose and their two children.Augusta died in 1879. Watsons father was William Stafford and Mary Humphrey his mother married on 16 february 1811 in shoreditch. this is as far as we have got really without prouf and records to show. William stafford was born in c1791 and was a lawyer/Solicitor and 1n 1841 he was a schoolmaster in stratford ,London .They had about 6 children. I am nowa TILBURY and we are working on this line now.
