| I started my research with my cousin Brenda, looking for the kirkby's. That was fun . We found Tharbies farm , and North Weald Hall, Says Park Farm and Eastwick and its church where you will find several grave stones of prominant Kirkby's .It was amazing to find that samuel Kirkby 1808 and william 1771 and their respected families were all within that area and farmed a good deal of it , renting the farms and the hall from gentry around Hertfordshire, Stanstead Abbotts and Rye Island as it was called then. My cousin and I are direct descendants of James Ind Kirkby and Mary e Kirkby. My Father Ernest John Kirkby ( John as he was known as)died when I was only a year old and my mother Ann Stafford re married Brian Kent , hence the change of surname to kirkby-kent. The kents were prominant Staffordshire family. Many of the Kents had military service. Arthur Eric Kemlo Kent joined up at 15 and served on several flag ships and was torpedoed three times and servived. He operated as a wireless controller in special ops for the Fleet airarm. It has been great fun finding out about my family and I still have alot to do .Feel free to read through and let me know if something is not correct. I have added photos which are of great help. |
