* The Tims family from Shropshire,Middlesex,Devon,USA*

Updated September 4, 2004

So far I have traced my TIMS family back to 1791 when my G G G grandfather WILLIAM Tims married JANE Nott in the parish of Bitterly, Shropshire. One of their children JAMES, who was baptised in St Marys church in Bitterly in 1794 was my G G Grandfather who lived in the parish and became a wheelwright. JAMES married SARAH whose maiden name I cannot find, in the same church. Their children, William, James, Mary Ann and Edwin were baptised there, but Mary Ann's short life ended at the tender age of four months in Feb 1836. SARAH died in 1837 at the age of 30 when baby Edwin was a few months old. In 1840 JAMES married again, to my G G Grandmother Mary Ann Elleman. Her first child was Harriet born 1841 and a year later another daughter Priscilla Elizabeth was born in Oct 1842 but she died the following Feb. I do not know what other children came along in the meantime until 5 August 1848 when my G Grandfather, CHARLES Tims was born. CHARLES became a carpenter and later moved to Middlesex and married CORELIA LUCY Bushell in 1873. Their children were Lily F, Robert C. Alfred K, William James,Percy, Bertie, Arthur. WILLIAM JAMES Tims was my Grandfather. When he was about 21 he moved to Devon and worked as a baker. He married my grandmother, AMELIA ANNIE Driver in the fishing village of Beer at St Michaels Church in 1903, and later worked aboard merchant ships including The Mauritania as a cook and baker. WILLIAM took his young family to Cowes, Isle Of Wight to live while he worked aboard ships mostly between Southampton and New York. He moved to New York some time around 1920 where he worked aboard The Fort St George for many years travelling between New York and Bermuda. Unknown to the family back in England,WILLIAM took another wife, marrying DORCILLA in 1925 and lived in Manhattan, NY. WILLIAMS' first wife, my grandmother AMELIA ANNIE returned to Devon with her children, the youngest been my father.AMELIA died at Beer, Devon, her native home, Dec 1946. My grandfather, WILLIAM JAMES Tims has long remained a mystery and I hope one day to find out what happened to him over in America, where most probably other Tims members went before him. It has taken a life long yearning to find that my Grandfather settled in America, and hopefully will know sometime in the future where he at last found his resting place. There must have been many unsettling times in his journey, as there were for his immediate family and children back in England but I hope some peace was found in his search for home. If anyone can help with any information on WILLIAM or his second wife DORCILLA and family I would be grateful. Also, any information regarding James' first wife Sarah who died in 1837 would be appreciated. Many Thanks.
