Descendants of John Tippett I

Generation No. 2

2. JOHN W.2 TIPPETT II (JOHN1) was born Abt. 1764, and died 1830. He married JANE (MAIDEN NAME UNKNOWN).

Notes for J
OHN W. TIPPETT II:
John Tippett, Jr., referred to as J. W. Tippett in Granville Co. Deed Book Q, died intestate in 1830. His son John was appointed executor of the estate February 11, 1831. At that time a petition was filed in Granville County Court to survey the 500 acre estate and equally divided it among his six children. (NOTE: only about 375 acres was actually partitioned among the heirs.)

(1) John received 62 acres, (2) Bethia and husband John Fowler reveived 77 acres, (3) James received 62 3/4 acres, (4) Jane and husband Cader Parker received 62 3/4 acres, (5) Mary (Polly) received 50 acres and (6) Harriet and hisband John Stroud received 62 acres.

Jonathan and James C. settled in Tennessee. The descendants of these men spell their names TIPPIT and TIPPETT respectively.

Children of J
OHN TIPPETT and JANE (MAIDEN NAME UNKNOWN) are:
  i.   HARRIET L.3 TIPPETT, m. JOHN STROUD, December 13, 1826, Granville Co., NC.
ii.   JANE (JINCY) TIPPETT, m. CADER PARKER, June 14, 1813, Granville Co., NC.
iii.   JAMES C. TIPPETT, m. NANCY MORRIS, 1819, Granville Co., NC.
  Notes for JAMES C. TIPPETT:
The commissioners divided the land of John Tippett, Sr. on August 12, 1831. However, it appears that James Tippett did not wait for the partitioning and signed over the rights to his share of the estate a year earlier (October 14, 1830) to Robert Dickins. (Granville Co. Deed Book 5, p. 17). He later moved to Wilson County, Tennessee.

  iv.   MARY (POLLY) TIPPETT.
5. v.   BETHIAH TIPPETT, b. July 16, 1793; d. October 01, 1865, Madisonville, Hopkins Co., KY.
6. vi.   JONATHAN A. (JOHN) TIPPETT III, b. Abt. 1799, Granville Co., NC; d. Bef. 1866, Stewart Co., TN.

3. WILLIAM T.2 TIPPETT SR. (JOHN1) was born Abt. 1772. He married REBECCA MILLS March 03, 1796 in Rowan Co., NC, daughter of GEORGE MILLS and ANNIE (MAIDEN NAME UNKNOWN).

Notes for W
ILLIAM T. TIPPETT SR.:
Little is known of William Tippett. He inherited 100 acres of land at the death of his father-in-law, Goerge Mills, in 1809. (Rowan Co. Deed Book 3, pp. 96, 97) However, there are no real estate conveyance records involving him, nor is he mentioned in any court records of Rowan or Granville Counties. He appears in the 1800 census of Rowan County but moved back to Granville sometime afterwards. It is likely that he returned after the early death of his brother Luke about 1806, and occupied the land that Luke had bought from his father. Luke's widow, Mary (Polly), moved to Rowan County after her husband's death. (1820 Census of Rowan County, p. 6)

WILLIAM and his brother John were neighbors in the Ledge of Rock District of south central Granville County in the 1820's and 1830's. (Granville County Lists of Taxables, 1820, 1825, 1832) However, the 1800 census and an 1803 tax list show that LUKE and his brother John were neighbors, substantiating the thought that William moved onto Luke's property and was living there while his sons William T. and John C. were growing to maturity. The 1800 census of Rowan County suggests that there were two daughters in the family at that time. One was Mary, but the name of the other is unknown.

In 1830 William T. Tippett appears a single, white male head of household (20-30 years old), but his father does not appear in the census. In 1832, however, both William Tippett, Sr. (he must have been William T. Tippett also) and William Tippett, Jr. appear as free polls residing in Ledge of Rock District of Granville County. The following year, 1833, only William T. and James C. are listed suggesting that William, Sr. had died or passed the taxable age. (1830 Census of Granville County, Granville Co. Lists of Taxables 1832, 1833)
