Hi! I am researching my TITUS family ancestory. My current relatives live primarily in the Cass and Howard County, Indiana area. However, previous three generations from my grandfather, Ed TITUS, to my gggrandfather, Joseph K. TITUS, lived in Johnson County, Indiana area. Joseph and his son, William R. both served in the Civil War. Joseph was listed as Josiah K. and was captured and spent 7 months in Andersonville Confederate Prison.
Prior to that Joseph was born in Ohio and his Father, James TITUS, was born in Pennsylvania.

I found my James Titus after 10 years of looking!! James was in Marion-Johnson county 1838 until his death before 1850. His widow, Elizabeth maiden name Wolf, is listed on the 1850 Johnson county census. Prior to moving to this area they lived in Adams county, Ohio from abt 1811 to 1837. Prior to this they lived in Armstrong county, PA. This line and others in Armstrong county are related to the Crawford county Titus family. This Titus line is a third major line in the U.S. and it is German. The lines of Armstrong County and Crawford County connect back to present day Blair County around the Frankstown and Carlisle area. This is the area where Peter Titus and Mary Williams raised their family until the family split up after the American Revolution with John Titus, my line, moving his family to Westmoreland County, present day Armstrong County, in the 1780s. John and his son John, Jr. are listed on the 1790 Armstrong Township, Westmoreland County as "FITES" in many indexes of this censes. But looking at the actual censes it can be seen the the actual surname is "TITUS". His brothers, Peter Titus, Jr. and Daniel Titus, who still lived in Huntingdon area in 1790 during the census were listed as the last name of "TITES" moved their families to Crawford County at the beginning of the 1800s where Jonathan Titus, the eldest son of Peter Titus, Jr. and Jane Kerr, had settled in the late 1790s after working for the Holland Company as a surveyor of this area in Pennsylvania.
Other surnames are in my line are BAKER, AMMERMAN, ODOM, RODMAN, PRUNER, SMITH (in the state of Indiana), WOLF, KING (KONIG), HERTZEL(HIRTZEL, HIRZEL), DIERHAMMER, KEYSER, JOST, PFAH, RIECKER, NEISS, CONRADT, SINTER, STEINER, KELLER and many others.

On Char's side her family is from the Grundy County, Illinois area. On her Mother's side they are Norwegian descent and came to the U.S. in 1880s. Her Father's family comes from the Davenport, Maquokata, Iowa area. Her surnames are BENSON, WELCH, SKOGEN, HEGGON, YARD, as well as others.

It has been several years after my initial find of this Titus line but am still trying to get more defined or absolute records on James' parents and siblings of this supposely very large family back in the late 1700s and early 1800. I currently don't have the Mothers maiden name but researching that it may be Elizabeth DUFFIELD. The siblings are John, Jr.(married Jane LENNINGTON), Peter(married Rachel MOORE), Catherine (married possibly John BISH), James(married Elizabeth WOLF), Mary(married Peter BISH), Catharine married Daniel LONG, George Duffield(married Jemima WINANS). George's middle name is why I have been researching DUFFIELD as their Mothers maiden name. I foung an Elizabeth that fits but no information to confirm or deny the possiblity of John Titus and Elizabeth Duffied marrage. She was from Philadelphia are and some Duffields moved to the Frankstown and Carlisle area. Plus during the early days families would have to leave the Frankstown and Carlisle areas for Philadelphia because of Indian uprisings so John Titus and Elizabeth Duffield may have met and as they became older married before the American Revolution because John, Jr. was born in 1761 and Peter Titus in 1766. A sketch dictated by Johnatan Titus of Crawford County, PA said his Uncle John Titus of Armstrong County had a family of 17 to 18 children. I only have found 7 or 8.
