ARAH ORR:
OBITUARY

Sarah Orr was born in county Antrim, Ireland, July 18th, 1833, and departed this life December 4th, 1922 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. B.W. Streeper, aged 89 years,4 months and 16 days.

She came to this county in 1852. The trip across was a long and dangerous one, taking seven weeks and three days. She reached this side June 30th. On the journey she was accompanied by her younger sister, Mina, and her niece, Martha Denison.

On November 8th, 1854, she was united in marriage to Samuel Orr at Thompsonville, Conn. To this union were born nine children. Joseph of Onslow; Wm. S. who died in 1916; Mrs. Jennie Elwood of Cresco; Samuel of Eaton Rapids, Mich.; Harbison of Cedar Rapids; Mrs. Sadie Streeper of Onslow. The other three died in infancy.

Her husband enlisted in the service of his country in 1861, leaving the care of home and three children to his wife. She did not shrink, but bravely went forward making the home a place of comfort for her children. Mr. Orr was invalided home and never fully regained health. He died at their home north of Onslow, December 27th, 1875, leaving Mrs. Orr to continue the struggle of keeping home and children.
The care of home and children did not hinder her in responding to the call of need when sickness invaded a neighbor's home. She Was always ready to give her services. On July 3rd, 1870, Mrs. Orr and her sister, Jemima, were received on profession of their faith in Christ, into the Bethel Presbyterian church. This was very shortly after the organization of the church which was effected June 14th of that year. As she found time for her home and children and for her friends in need so she found time for God and the church. For 35 years she was a faithful teacher in the Sabbath school, permitting nothing to keep her from the house of God.

The Scriptures which she taught to others and with which she stored her own mind and heart in those days of active service were a great source of strength to her in the later days when age confined her to her home. It was her great joy to sing Psalms and hymns in the quietness of her home when she thought none but God heard. Now she has joined the great company that sing his praises around the throne. "Precious in the Sight of the Lord is the Death of His Saints."

Funeral services were conducted at the Onslow Presbyterian church by Rev. V. F. Pickering, the pastor, on Wednesday, December 6th at 1 o'clock. Interment in the Clay cemetery.

EMINA ORR:

                        OBITUARY OF MRS. JEMINA ORR

Mrs. Jemina Orr was the youngest of eleven children, all of whom grew to manhood and womanhood.

She was born in County Antrim, Ireland, Aug. l0th, 1815 and remained there with her parents until 1852, when she came to America at the age of sixteen with her sister Sarah and niece, Martha Dennison.

The trip was long and dangerous, as they were on the water seven weeks and three days from the time of sailing until they landed, June 30, l852.

She took up her abode in Thompsonville, Conn. where she remained until she was united in marriage to William Orr, on Mar. 16,1855, who was also a native of Ireland.

In April of the same year they sought a home in the West locating in Clay Township, Jones Co., Iowa. In 1863 they established a home which they enjoyed for 25 years until Mr. Orr was called by death January 28, 1888.

She maintained the homestead for several years making her home with her children part of the time until 1909. Since that date she has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Minnie Kennedy, until she answered the Master's summons, Mar. 18 at the age of 85 years 7 months and 8 days.

She was the mother of eleven children, five of whom died in early childhood. The others are Mrs. Janie Bullock of Onslow, la., Mrs. Nancy Blackadder of Chicago, who died Mar. 3, 1898, at the age of )6 years, J. W. Orr of California, Mrs. Mary Werden of Monmouth, Ia., Mrs. Minnie Kennedy and Mrs. Edna Wasson of Onslow. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Sarah Orr, of Onslow, 17 grandchildren and eleven great-grand children.

She joined the Bethel Pres. church in 1870 being among the first members after its organization. She lived a quiet consistent Christian life, happiest when she was doing for others. Always cheerful and uncomplaining, even thru the pains of infirmity. "Aunt Mina" as she was known lived to be missed, but our loss is her gain.

The funeral services were held at the Onslow Pres. church, Monday P.M. at 1 o'clock, conducted by Rev. B.F. Pickering, her pastor. The services were attended by a large number of friends and neighbors of the family. Interment being in the family lot in Clay Cemetery. The pallbearers were nephews of the deceased, namely--John Orr, Cascade, la. , Harbinson Orr, Cedar Rapids, la., James Agnew, Walker, la., Wm. Fletcher, Wm. H. Orr, and J.A. Orr of Onslow.

"Sleep on. Beloved, Sleep, and take thy rest, Lay down thine head upon the Savior's breast, We loved thee well, bu.t Jesus loves thee best. Good night. Good night. "
