| From Virginia, through Kentucky, the Blackwell and Todd families migrated as early settlers to the beautiful "Hoosier Hills" region (Lawrence, Monroe and Orange counties) of southern Indiana. While many descendants of these pioneers still inhabit these hills, many others have been lost to the westward migrations. Perhaps you too may have "Hoosier Roots"? I’m a trustee of the Gilgal Cemetery, located in Heltonville, a small rural community located in Lawrence County. I would be glad to provide information on any of your ancestors which may rest there. I also have interest in researching several of my other ancestral lines including Allen, Bartlett, Cope, Hays, Henderson, Helton, Hillenburg, Kinser, Reasor, Scott, Utterback and Wampler. Queries: Who was the father of James Blackwell, b c1733 (Hanover Co.?) VA, d 1783 Culpeper Co., VA. Who was the wife of James? Was Joseph Blackwell, b c1730 (Hanover Co.?) VA, d 1780 Culpeper Co., VA a brother to James? Who was the father of Benjamin Blackwell, b1773 VA, d 1853 Orange Co., IN, and his purported brother Ezekiel Blackwell, b 1786 Madison Co., KY, d 1871 Lawrence Co., IN? These two founded Palestine in 1818, the first seat of government in Lawrence County. |
